Is it me or is the constant Apple placement on the BBC now getting beyond a joke ? This Facebook prog on BBC2 is nothing more than one long Apple advert......

I feel a complaint email coming on.

It is legal for them to do it now though is it not? So its the highest bidder

 

My understanding was that the BBC were still not allowed to partake in product placement as they are paid for by the TV licence (along the same lines as why they're not allowed adverts or sponsorship messages)

Yeah read that just now, i didn't realise and its taking the p**s a little with the amount of Apple kit.

 

 

It's fair enough the stuff that is in the Facebook office on this is what they want. But when it comes to the sitting around a showing this off using only Apple kit is annoying

Product placement is where it is paid placement. The BBC doesn't accept payment for it, therefore it isn't placement. It is simply trying to look cool and modern.

 

If this were the 80s, I'm sure the shows would've been full of ZX Spectrums...

I agree with Localzuk. How can it be classed as product placement when the computers are owned by the company and used by the employees to do their job? I saw a lot of Dell LCDs in that Facebook programme, but I doubt Dell paid for any of them to be there.

I'm not quite sure thats what he meant (from my reading of it), Yes they are not being paid to place the items there, but they are still only using one manufactures product.

 

In the office of Facebook they can't do much about it, agreed. But when the presenter was sitting in a lounge the laptop she closed was a Macbook Pro, When she was using a tablet it was a ipad etc etc.

 

if they are not being biased towards using one manufacures products she could have say been using a HP laptop, and then a Motorola tablet etc.

 

It just seemed that everything was apple.

So, your argument isn't against them using products, but just against using Apple products...

No its the fact they are just using one type for everything. Granted I don't like apple kit personally but it's not about that. I'm not saying it has to a particular manufactures stuff i just think it is a bit of an apple overload in every thing they use.

 

But as much as i don't like apple kit i don't like Windows just as much!

I don’t watch BBC so I don’t know how bad it is, but could it just be BBC are trying to make the scenes represent real life? Every day most places have Apple products all over and around here even the technophobes have them. Many of whom a few years ago I would never have expected to have computers yet now are walking around with Iphones and I pads.

If a show is based on an area that does have idevices all over would it be product placement to make the show realistic? Should the BBC be forced to buy lots of different devices they would not normally use and start using them? Should the presenters really be forced into learning different operating systems and devices and have to keep swapping?

But in my experience it doesn't represent real life - maybe the iphones and ipads -( although a quick straw poll around my school shows that only one or two people have iphones) but particularly laptops. Every program that shows a laptop - it is a Mac. Oh, I did see a sony the other day which was quite exciting

They're bowing to Apple's percieved dominance. Macs are twice as expensive as the equivalent Windows computers. And they both do exactly the same thing.

Look children! It's the rare and mysterious Sony Vaio. Remember what it looks like, they'll be extinct soon.

 

~Ohhs and ahhs. One random "I really like it's screen." Sounds of camera shutters.~

 

The Sony Vaio in it natural office enviroment has no true preditors, however the Apple Mac uses trickery and showmanship to give a false impression of it's superiority.

Errrmmmm.......don't quite know how to say this but,......

 

I've had a 5 year old Mac Mini at home for the last month or two, and it has been so easy and trouble free to install anything I've needed. Admittedly, I haven't got right into it like I have with my pc, in finding 'value-added' or 'shiny' software e.g. the mail program is pretty basic to say the least, but device connection has been a complete doddle, so has connecting it to my home lan, even plugging my Panasonic camcorder into it produced immediate working results. Installing software is so much easier (for a novice/non-expert) than on a Windows box....OpenOffice, Divx Player, required codecs etc, the only problems I've had seem to be previously encountered and much discussed on various forums, so I don't think they're down to me. And as a media-player it really whips the Llama's Ass, as they say. I have it plugged into my TV, the resolution set itself correctly without any intervention from me.......it was all so E-A-S-Y.

 

Some minor annoyances with stuff that hasn't been ported over to Mac, like mIRC for example. I haven't tried it yet, but there's a Shoutcast version for Mac, which is encouraging and, I daresay, challenging.

 

In short, I'm impressed. I'm not sure it's capable of running OSX Lion, but if it is, I'm sure I'd shell out for it, even though I'd have to go to Snow Leopard and then Lion. I know someone in the States who's just gone completely Apple......Mac Mini, iPhone, iPad, iCloud...... she's delighted with it all and I can understand the attraction.

 

Am I turning into a Fan Boy? Am I getting old and just want a quiet life? Or am I.........Evolving?

i found the opposite with the mac mini i borrowed even the "simple" task of adding photos to it made it crash repeatedly
