I wonder if a similar process would work in schools for recruiting teachers? Only the best of the best sort of thing :)

I would hope not. It's false logic.

You're wanting the best, but you can only select from people who know what you're on about. While it works with some things, for things like this [what the thread is about], it doesn't work.

They're looking for someone with a certain way of thinking, but are limiting it to people who know how to solve this "challenge". Someone may have the right way of thinking, but will be disregarded as a worthy candiudate because they haven't been taught something specific.

I was thinking more along the lines of certain hoops to jump through to demonstrate common sense, professional attitude and basic IT skills.

Or, like me, you just found the end page on their website and cheated your way through ;) hehe

I just thought "WWBD?" [What would Batman Do?]

And the answer came to me.

Disregard challenge, aquire server folder layout. [and by extension, the end page.]

Batman cares not for your challenges.

Professional attitude tests would only work if there was no-one to corrupt them if they got the job. I've seen it happen.

Nice, polite NQT starts work then quickly becomes rude and self-centred due to other staff acting that way. They assume that's the way they're suppose to behave.

Same with NQT's being put with horrible teachers during training. The horrible teacher treats them bad during the training, then when the NQT is training someone else they treat them the same way they were treated.

Our basic IT skill test is "download the application form our website and email it back to us"... the ones who ask for paper are noted.

That was an approach that did occur to me. Why not just download the entire website.

Lazyness. Or more likely reverse-lazyness.

And it's been a while since I've tried to access a folder layout for a website. I wanted to see if I could still do it.

The shortest route between two points and all that, spend several hours completing the tedious tasks that are most certainly out of my depth or spend a few minutes doing it the way I know?

It would have been fun to change it friom GCHQ themed to The Riddler. But, I doubt they would have appreciated it.

Its not really laziness its changing the rules of the test, the problem about doing it that way is it shows you have some skills just not the skills they want to assess.

Although... The object of the test is to get through it.

They ask you to crack the code, but it's more of a suggestion than an order. [That's how I saw it anyway.]

X-13 im not allowed to rep you, its a travesty ... that "I have teh dumb" had me in stitches!

I think you'll find that this, my friend, is an outrage.

Its nothing to do with what you guys have been talking about :)

It's exactly what I thought it was.

And it's lame money, long hours, requirements of "flexibility" and in Cheltenham.

Then again... the bottom end of the payscale is roughly 3.5 times what I currently get.

I'll think you'll find that's simply A solution.

There are quite a few ways to do it.

Calling it THE solution implies that there is no other way to do it.

[/Completely missing the point]

Rephrase, A solution to all the parts of the problem
