Making random accusations against a single person who has been discussing things quite civilly about this topic on a forum with 41k members is a bit, let's just say, lacking in intelligence... ;) Kinda proves j17sparky's and my point!

*takes troll hat off*

You don't know what was said in the rep comment so please don't stick your nose in something that has nothing to do with you.

Rather not "grow a pair" if you don't mind. :)

Are you seriously saying that as long as someone doesn't say something deliberately to hurt someone, it doesn't matter if they do? What about the pandering to the racist/homophobic etc instincts of the people you are speaking to?

I don't think that making stereotypical comments makes you racist, whatever colour you are. It just makes you ignorant.

(*runs away*)

~Blocks escape path~

You can grow a pair. A pair of what, however, remains to be seen. You can also grow a pear.

This is one of those "thin ice" things. It can go either way depending on how you decide to view it.

I know Jimmy Carr makes these jokes, I know what to expect. If I thought I was going to be offended by the jokes he tells, I wouldn't watch. [Which was what I was trying to say... I suck at explaining.]

Also, stopping something because it panders to a minority of -phobes would end up with everything being banned.

I could have done, but I found your post offensive and took exception to it.

What exactly about my post did you find offensive? the fact i quoted a joke made by a comedian to illustrate my point? can i assume you find children in need and comic relief offensive too as they show scenes people wouldn't like to see, the same goes for the news reporting on things like war.

just because someone brings something to your attention, it doesn't instantly make the fact it was brought to your attention offensive. if i had posted "heres a good joke about down syndrome haha", that could be seen as offensive, but how is me saying "this is what he said, this was his counter argument, do you agree" offensive?

And if you post things I consider stupid, then I will assume things about you. (As people do about me :) )

again, you are the one actually being offensive here. i asked a question, do you think that audiences regulate comedy in light of thhe recent jimmy carr story? you jumped in with me being a troll and being offensive and now follow it up with me being stupid and assuming things about me.

Now you can be offended by my remarks or you could learn from the experience :)

and once again, you are now coming across as very patronising in that. i can learn from the experience? learn what? know my place and don't start topics on things i'd like to talk about and see talked about? would you have been happier if i'd have put a NSFW tag at the top?

if the news site reports had said "jimmy carr is in trouble for his comment [buy the dvd to see the comment] again" it wouldn't really illustrate their point would it?

i quoted him, the same as you are quoting me and everyone else here quoting each other. i didnt post this as a joke, its not in the jokes forum; it was a discussion, a debate, and judging by 7 pages worth of content it has at least invoked some discussion around it.

Just because it's 7 pages, it doesn't mean it's a discussion.

Mention religion and you can get, and I've seen it, up to 60 pages.

Pure bile and hatred on everyone single one. That's not a discussion.

[Not trying to start an arguement... just saying.]

This should just about cover it :p

Love him. He seems to get lost sometimes in what he is trying to say but most of it is quite clever.

Jim Jefferies is the epitome of offensive jokes. If your into crude/offensive stuff check out his 'Alcoholacaust' DVD.

fair point, but this hasn't descended totally into anarchy (yet), there are still discussions in here albeit with heated arguments surrounding it.

my point is, i wanted to get peoples views on it, and it has got peoples views on it. but for others they focussed on their views on me, not on the actual topic.

sort of like someone asking how to do something in active dir, and rather than getting a comment on how to do it, someone saying "you are stupid, you shouldn't be working in IT"

Heeey... Have you been secretly following me around at work? [sadly... I'm not even joking.]

What exactly about my post did you find offensive?

The fact that you requoted offensive material - you knew that some people found it offensive but YOU decided that regardless of this, you'd repost the material.

Lets give an analogy

Someone publishes a disturbing picture - somelse reprints it here and says i don't know what the fuss is about - can you not see it would be better to just link to it (with a warning) so that people who would be disturbed by it don't see it.

The discussion could still take place but people like me would not have seen the picture and would just move on to next thread :)

I've caused offence around here in the past and when its been pointed out to me I normally delete the post or apologise - I don't have a go at the person I've offended and tell them they are wrong :)

And there lies the flaw.

They won't move on, they click the link and then complain. Or just complain for the hell of it.

See: The Jerry Springer Opera. [More complaints recieved well after it aired, by people who didn't watch it and just thought "I would have been offended by this."]

Well it does appear that some people on here refuse to let others have their own opinion on things. According to my latest neg rep, "i'm an idiot" for liking these comedians. Am I also an "idiot" for not liking the same things you do? What about Religion? I'm not religious. I play rugby and dislike football - am I going to get more neg reps? Most likely...

It's saddening to see that the neg reppers are so cowardly that they won't say who it is that keeps neg repping me in their flaming messages.

No religious AND dislike football, I am disgusted...On a serious note I think the argument was over about 4 pages ago when people said its a matter of opinion.

I didn't actually say "i dont see what the fuss is about", that would be me saying "i agree with the joke, what is wrong with those that dont. i never said that, i said here is the joke, here is what jimmy carr said to counter the joke (and others he has told) do you agree or disagree.

i quoted the joke in the correct context for the topic. as i said, i if i had put this in the jokes forum and expected loads of laughs at it, then yes, i agree, i'd be offensive in doing so. but my intentions were not to gain a laugh, they were to ask a question, and to do that i included the topics of my question.

my apologies if you have taken offense, but to be fair you haven't once actually given your opinion on my original question, only subtly attacked me.

but anyway, i'm not actually in work today, i'm off out shopping, so i won't be replying to this again (as i guess it will have died out by monday).

DONT DO IT AGAIN.

AM I BEING TOO SUBTLE FOR YOU!

On page 4 i thought this was correct, now on page 9 even more so!

I'm not commenting on the argument/discussion but this thread i think would class as comedy.
