Strange tool name needed...

Hi all,

 

We've lost this bit that we need to get some of our projectors security bars off... (urgently need to replace lamp).

 

It's a bit that fits on the end of a magnetic screwdriver that's cylindrical in shape, about inch and a half in diameter / 1cm deep.

 

anyone know what this bit is called?

no, i know what they are... it's like a cylinder (size mentioned above) on a disc which inserts into a megnetic screwdriver like any other bit (philips/flat/socket etc...)

Sounds like a key lock - in which case you are out of luck

Any markings or a shot right down the barrel as it were to see how it works, it might be replicatable by their DT people if they have them.

They are an odd thing, they are magnetic, and dont seem to offer much grip on the "nut" (which in our case is rounded edge flat head)

 

I have a feeling, the few that we had that used this, have since been replaced. If you have to luck today, I will have alook around the rooms (80 odd), and see if we still need the bit.

Honestly I have no idea what it's called, Just had one sitting on my desk since I took over this job

Having looked at ours, you will find that the fit isnt actually circular, just slight oval.

ahh, that'll explain why it can unscrew the locking nut. I thought it was magic or something up until now!

We also found with the cages that have these, even with the security bar removed, the projector (Epson EMP-83) still needed the pole mount removing.

Could you not dremel a line across the nut and then use a standard screwdriver? I had to do that to remove the bracket from one of our projectors since it needed to be mounted onto a new one.

Looks like it is an OVAL PAN HEAD SECURITY TOOL. Just got to measure up to make sure
