Pc Graphics Card

Iv got a 1st Core I3 and im looking at getting a graphics card for it. But i haven't got a big budget for it. (£50)

 

I havent got a clue about the lastest ones going at the minute and i would like some help please..

What games are you looking to be able to play? A £50 card certainly won't get you playing some of the latest games unfortunately!

What sort of games are you looking to play? For £50 you wont get a very long lifespan from it if you like to keep up with the latest releases.

Around this budget, the Radeon HD6570 GDDR5 is surprisingly capable at lower resolutions and quality settings - it's a 'proper' card unlike the 6450.

opps sorry. i was looking at playing COD:MW3 but i might as well buy it for the ps3. But would be nice to have some power in the system to when i wanna play games. I can spend a little more if i need to,.

Something like an old gen HD 4770 or 8800GT will get you the equivalent of lower mid-range these days for that price. They should beat a 6570. GPU market has really started to slow down since the top end has hit thermal/power limits.

Not at top spec graphics no, but you can still play them at perfectly acceptable graphics with the right budget card...

 

Still, if you have a PS3 and aren't a die hard PC gamer (as I guess you're not from the thread!), it'll work out cheaper just to buy the PS3 version if you want to play it as it was intended!

At £50 new you honestly won't get much of a boost over your integrated graphics at that point - 1st Gen Core i3 isn't as good as the newer models, but it's still surprisingly capable. The bottom end of the market is pretty abysmal, there's a definite point of diminishing returns at the bottom as well as the top of the GPU market.

 

So as others have said, second hand is the way to go. XFX do a double lifetime warranty iirc, as in, the second owner also has a lifetime warranty. If you absolutely need a new one the cheapest card worth a damn would be the ATI 5770/6770 at about £80, will work fine at 1680x1050. Either of those will do seeing as the later is just a renamed version of the former, with only the tiniest of tweaks (but no performance gain).
