LosOjos Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I got my first jet kill last night! Also playing with the throttle (Left trigger on XBox controller) slows your craft down so you can chase people from behind. Might be a daft question, but is there a better way of learning to fly than jumping in and having a go? i.e. should I give campaign a play through to learn to fly?

Nope, literally just have a bash at it and start trying to drop your throttle, soon teaches you how to fly around.

OK, then can anyone tell me the basic controls? I tried flying a chopper, pulled the left trigger and it flipped on to it's back and exploded... I've not tried since!

When I got in a jet for the first time, I was figuring out which buttons on my Xbox pad did what. I bailed out in mid air. :| Try going onto a 24 man conquest. There are always jets available to grab, and thee is more chance of staying in the air longer instead of being shot down.
Rawns Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Epic moment yesterday. Managed to sneak all the way up to an enemy tank that was in in the open. I had no cover but got close enough to get 3 pieces of C4 onto it. Backed away and as I stopped, his barrel turned and he pointed it right at me. Must have detonated the C4 just before he fired. Double kill thank you please.

OK, looks like it's a case of man up and go for it! Am I at least right to assume the controls are pretty standard, i.e. left trigger is throttle, right is fire, left stick is pitch, right stick is yaw? EDIT: not sure I have pitch and yaw the right way, by pitch I mean tilt/steering, by yaw I mean altitude...

I like it over keyboard/mouse for air.

EDIT: not sure I have pitch and yaw the right way, by pitch I mean tilt/steering, by yaw I mean altitude... Xbox default controls on PC if I remember correctly: Right trigger - Accelerate left Trigger - Decelerate Left Shoulder button - Fire Right Shoulder Button - Flares (when you get the unlocked) Left Stick - Yaw Left Stick Push - Afterburner Right Stick - Turning Right Stick Push - 3rd Person View (on non-hardcore servers) Blue - Change Weapons? (when you have more unlocked) Yellow - Bail Out? D-Pad - Look around? Unsure about Green & Red! If any of those are wrong, I'm sure someone can correct me. I'm mouse and keyboard for everything, but reach for my 36-0 pad in the jet/chopper. I can handle the aircraft so much better with it. Edited November 25, 2011 by Rawns

Cheers, looks like deceleration might have been my problem; assuming it's similar for the chopper, it's no wonder I drive it into the ground! I'd +rep you but apparently I've been a bit too rep-happy these past 24 hours!

CAM Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) Red is bail-out and about the most important button you will have early on. But yeah, jump in, die, die again, die again lol. Tip for turning, learn how to tilt the plane sideways then pull back on the stick. Takes practice but an essential technique as it forms the basis for other moves. So from this (plane level and neutral): ^ To this (banked left): < Then pull back to go "up" and you go left instead. EDIT - Ooops missed you post ZH. XBox Controller makes a world of difference. The downside is they added vibration support but no option to disable it. So when I swap back to infantry, BUZZZZZZZZZZZ! Edited November 25, 2011 by CAM 1

Soooooo annoying when.on foot. It vibrates even when you jump! If anyone finds a hack to disable it, please share!!!!
featured_spectre Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Finally I have all ribbons!! On xbox just need to get rank 45 and the rest is co-op cheevo's wooo
Rawns Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 @LosOjos - How are you getting on with the 360 controller? Become the next Maverick yet? Does anyone know if you can change the sensitivity of the 360 controller sticks? Turning with the mouse seems to be a lot tighter then with the 360 controller so I want to up the sensitivity but can't see anywhere to do it.

No unfortunately I was so busy this weekend I only got 30mins of Battlefield in and decided I wanted to spend as few of those as possible alive so I wimped out on the flying! I'll give it a go later though! Don't know about tuning sensitivity, but have you seen these pads, they look awesome and I have to have one: Razer Onza Tournament Edition Xbox 360 Controller - RZ06-00470100-R3G1 - Scan.co.uk
tommej Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I found that the default settings for jets were fine, just bind space bar to pitch up and tap your afterburners during turns.
Butters Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Have to love the frostbite engine. Battlefield 3 – 1000 Mines Video | EGMNOW 1000 mines in a domino effect with the end result being a tank flying through the sky.
featured_spectre Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 2 tanks My epic moment...in 1 round...4 medals + engineer service star + 3 weapon service stars, 26 ribbons....ranked up from 25 to 28 in 1 hit!
featured_spectre Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Right...got the Back to Karkand DLC....hardest xbox/ps3 achievement = Complete warrior...in 1 life get a kill with the jet, tank and assault rifle...absolute beast, however a mate of mine did it on Kharg Island so it is doable ...however you MUST have the DLC to get the achievements.
featured_spectre Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Yeah...I NEARLY did it, but got taken out after I got the jet and tank kill! Was knifed from behind, was so gutted! lol
CAM Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I haven't had a chance to try multi yet (was polishng off co-op) but the guns looks nice. Q series of guns are just strange, but L96 I want. Wonder if it's reputation will carry over from CS in it's other guise of AWP. That G53 SAS is strange mind you. It's meant to be a short barrel version of the G3 but it looks like an MP5 with a chunkier magazine!
featured_spectre Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Its a mix between the both to be fair....
CAM Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Had fun last night. On one of the new maps I was on a skyscraper with a sniper rifle. Incoming heli "Get your SOFLAM on that thing!" After three attempts at locking on due to LOS or IR Flares we Jevelin'd it. Just before it fired rockets to hose the rooftop. Didn't get lucky second time round mind you.
kevbaz Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 If a plane or chopper is laser designated then their flares are worthless as the javalin is laser guided not heat guided, thats why the soflam + javalin are under used and under appreciated, one hit kills on aircraft
