LeonieCol Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Hi all, I am desperately trying to connect an iPad 2 to Exchange but it keeps saying that it cannot verify. I have typed in the email address, server, domain, username, password but it keeps saying it. I have tried different variations of the server (external IP address, name etc) as well as leaving the domain name blank or trying it with .lan at the end. I wondered if there was something that I am supposed to check somewhere on the server so that connections are allowed from iPads? It seems to work fine on other mobile devides, just not iPads. Any help would be great.

LeonieCol Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Hi. Thanks, I looked through that but it has not helped me. I am slightly confused by the certificate though. I wondered if the server is rejecting the connection due to a lack of a certificate but I am not sure how to get it on the iPad.
GrumbleDook Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Is the certificate a self-signed one or via a CA? If it is self-signed then you can email it to yourself and choose to install it (email it to a google account or similar). Use the iPhone Config Utility to create a certificate profile which will set up the right certificate for you.

LeonieCol Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 I am allowed to do it as it is 'my' server! :-) Still confused as to where I actually locate the certificate file in the first place. None of the sites seem to be telling me that.

For simplicity, I'd advise you to get a 3rd part Cert which is trusted and your Iphone should trust that, willmake life easier.
GrumbleDook Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Have you gone to the OWA page on a desktop machine, installed the certificate on that? There are guides on the internet about how to export an installed certificate as a private key, including putting it into the format you want / need to use elsewhere. Import or export certificates and private keys as an example. Is that the sort of thing you need?

If they do, is this the first time that this particular user has accessed their Exchange 2010 mailbox on an iPad? (If so, I have a stab in the dark - but it's long-winded, so will wait for you to say yes or no to what i've asked to save my fingers!)
m25man Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Never done an iPad2 to 2010 but have done loads of iPhone 4's and they always worked 1st time either with a genuine SSL or Self Signed. If i have a problem normally just deleting the Exchange account from the phone and trying again works for me.

I do know that a teacher tried to set up email on his iPhone and couldn't get it working though, despite me giving him all the relevant settings. I would appreciate your stab in the dark! I have now installed the certificate but that makes no difference (I didn't think it would). I have tried many times to delete the account and recreate it, reset network settings, turn off and on etc etc.
IKWeb Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Hi I use my exchange 2010 account on my iPad 2 and it works fine. You will need a fully valid ssl cert else u will get errors. Other than that just follow the on screen prompts enter the info and your away.

Locate the user in Active Directory Users and Computers. Click View -> Advanced features Right-click on the User and click Properties Click on the Security tab Click on the Advanced button Tick "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" Close everything down and re-try accessing on the iPad with their credentials (if you want to test with an alternative username just repeat the above steps for that test username) One other thing I have found previously is the username format often seems to get its knickers in a twist - sometimes wanting DOMAIN\username (with no domain being typed in the domain field itself) and other times wanting the domain typed in the domain field with just the username in username. Hope my ramblings help! You can see why I didn't post straight away!
