sappling Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Hi all, I was wondering if you could all help me. For the past few years as part of my role within the schools ICT team i have been responsible for designing, developing and managing the schools website. I am totally self taught and have developed a pretty good knowledge of html, css, php and jQuery etc but with the development of CMS such as WordPress I want to use one for the schools site. There appears to be numerous CMS's out there and was wondering if anyone has any preference and can point me in the right direction with plugns and templates etc. Kind Regards Scott
kili Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 For the sheer number of available plugins and modules Joomla is more than suitable. I have heard some good reports from web developers using concrete 5 for their customers but there's not as many plugins available . We use Joomla at our school
Jamman960 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 We've just moved over to Drupal, seems pretty good so far. I've thought about using Wordpress in the past but it dosen't seem to scale very well when you go beyond a few pages. It worked very well for our newsletter section when we had a static site though. mavhc Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Simplest/Least Flexible to More complex/flexible Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal If you're going with Drupal, then look into Acquia, even just to get a list of modules they use: Acquia Drupal module list | Acquia
techieshelp Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 for a beginner, personally it woud have to be wordpress
mikegrant Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 We use wordpress running on IIS/SQLSrv, runs like a dream. It's flexible if you know what you're doing with it. But it's definitely a good starting point!
