We have got a PAT testing chap in today, and I have just spotted that he has tested some of our "double" power leads (one plug, two "kettle" plugs on the other end). He has put a sticker on each of the kettle plugs, and not one the whole lead. Is this correct?

Surely if one is faulty, that make the whole lead faulty?

Obviously, he will charge us per sticker, so just want this clearing before we get the bill!

Tricky one, I guess he'd need to check each end but as you say if ones faulty the whole lead is. As he's doing 2 tests he's probably within his rights to charge for 2.

gnerally it is good practice to test every outlet. the secound outlet could have a worn pin and cause arcing which would be a failure. He may not really need to put a second sticker on it, but a lot of companies will sticker as many things as they test so the record is complete and can be trailed through in the event of a query.

i am heartened quite frankly to see he is being thorough.

As a qualified tester myself, you obviously have to check both plugs as said above and it's the time it takes to do a test that's worth the money, if you're having to do twice as many tests then i suppose you'd charge 2 per lead. Besides if you had 2 kettle leads you'd be charged the same anyway
