Junior Librarian - Permissions.

I have just moved Junior Librarian onto a new machine, and I cannot work out how to set up the permissions to allow anyone to run it.

 

I've got the database installed on the server, and the folder is shared as \\myserver\juniordata this folder has full permissions granted to

 

Everyone

Administrators

Domain Admin

Domain Users

System

 

 

Yet everytime I log on from a different computer within the domain (even as administrator) I get a message to say I don't have permission to access the database or an invalid path has been specified

 

Also, if i run setup, it says it can't find a share with library data in it - obviously the same problem, but I am at a loss as to why, as I can navigate to the folder and save/modify/delete a file in it.

 

 

we don't have a support contract with MLS and with a quote of over £300/year we won't be getting one.

 

Any suggestions?

Have you modified the local.ini file to point to the shared folder where the database is stored.

yes, and I can browse directly to that file so I definitely have permission for it.

The recommended method is \\SERVERNAME\Junior3$ with Everyone 'Full Control'. Update the ini to this path and it should work correctly.

Well, that's solved the first problem. If it has to have a specific name I do wish it would have said that. With their being an ini file, I incorrectly assumed that as long as I put the path in the ini file, it would find it.

 

i can now use it as administrator, but if I log in as a normal user, I am getting an Active X error. One stop forwards, 2 steps back as they say...

I've never seen an Active X error with Junior Librarian. What OS are you using? And what version of Junior Librarian are you using? I'm using 3.2.2.25 and this works with XP and 7 32Bit.

it's version 3.2.2.16 and Server 2003, windows xp with service pack 3

 

I think it's permissions related, as if I log in as a domain administrator it works fine, but if I log in as a normal user (or even RangerManager which usually has full permissions) it doesn't - and my icon doesn't appear which would suggest it can't see ana necessary directory.

I don't use Ranger, so you're probably right. It'll be a Software Restriction Policy, or something along these lines.

 

It works OK in a vanilla XP or 7 32bit network.

I know this is an old topic... But, just had a similar issue, so thought would be good to put out for others, since I did a search, and found this thread, but no answers to any resolutions (whether this will resolve others with similar problems, I couldn't say )...

 

Had a new machine to use as the library computer, and so set up the junior librarian 3 software... It ran fine, but upon trying to circulate, it wouldn't work unless I was logged on as admin... It came up with an error about the database and permissions and biometrics...

 

I found that if I added the staff group to the local administrators group, it worked just fine... But, I didn't want staff to be full admin of the machine...

 

So, I tried giving the staff group read/write/execute/modify/list etc permissions to the C:\Program Files\Junior3\ folder. This appears to have resolved the issue, and all looks to be working perfectly
