10101010 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Hi Previously on 2003 server I have used Taskpads combined with Delegate Control of an OU to allow teachers to reset passwords. We are now on 2008R2 and even though you can still delegate control easy enough there doesn't appear a way to create a customized view of AD (taskpad) so the user can only view the OU the have delegated control over. How are you giving access to password resets for specific OU's?

You will need to have Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 with SP1 if it is a Win7 box and then run the following: dism /Online /enable-feature /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Roles /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Roles-AD /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Roles-AD-DS /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Roles-AD-DS-SnapIns That command just enables the right bits and pieces. 1
Quackers Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I am in the same boat, non of the password reset programs i can find come close to the ease of use of a taskpad view. If you recreate the taskpad on 2008 server you can lock it down to just that one OU, but its no longer as simple as pushinhg out adminpack.msi to clients which is our issue. Wish i had some serious programming skills and i would try and make one.

I did this for a member of staff here to allow them to reset passwords ONLY on student accounts, this member of staff is very trust worthy and wouldnt leave her laptop unlocked with kids near by and is a great little tool. Great that some one raised it back because I had forgotten how I did it all

I re-created mine on a Windows 7 machine to make it look a little shinier. The import thing to note is that you must install the .msu file and then run that command.

ruddj Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Just a suggestion to give the free Password Control utility a go. You can run it straight from shared drive if you want and it is very easy for staff to use.
