CHR1S Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Im a little rusty on my old school memory types, what is 1rx16 pc2-3200u-333-12 in its most compatible current form? I need a 1Gb or 2x 512mb sticks for an IBM Thinkstation (M/T 3136-73G) Thanks
DT2 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) DDR2 400Mhz. Evil auction site seems pretty cheap. DT Edited September 13, 2011 by DT2 1
CHR1S Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 How did you work that out from that? lol Thanks tho 1
DT2 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 used to have DDR400 in one of my systems years ago....
stevenlong1985 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Looks like DDR1 Ram........google says ddr2
CHR1S Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 Looks like DDR1 Ram So... which one is it? I swear you lot try to wind me up
dgsmith Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 PC2 is typically DDR2 - you can get 400mhz (3200) in DDR2 but they are the slowest band and I think actually quite hard to get hold of (seeing as there isn't really demand for DDR2 ram at DDR1 speeds)!
stevenlong1985 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 could upload a photo? it is confusing as pc2-3200u-333, 333 bit is the speed of 400MHz which was PC3200 which = ddr1
stevenlong1985 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 have to learn to type faster, my replies are too slow dgsmith and plexer could be right, shocking if they made DDR2 Ram run at DDR1 speeds
Michael Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) PC2-3200 is DDR2. You should normally be able to put faster memory in. Your motherboard will just run it at a slower speed. And yes you can get 400MHz DDR2 (when the standard was available to buy). 667MHz or 800MHz DDR2 is generally more common these days (as well as DDR3 of course ) The weird thing is I cannot find your model even on Google, so I would double check it! Guest Guest Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Usually PC# = DDR# 3200 = 400 mhz Therefore DDR2-400 As said, the first ddr2 was the same speed as the top ddr1

DT2 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 You can under clock it, so you can run ddr2 400 at 333mhz. not sure what the point of that is, but it works. DDR2 did indeed begin it's range @ 333Mhz DT
CHR1S Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 Here you go, its IBM part number 38L4379
Arthur Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 ^ That is definitely 400MHz DDR2 RAM. Given how cheap RAM is I would get 2 x 1GB DIMMs which are approx. £7.08 each.
Arthur Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 By the way, 2GB DDR2 DIMMs are only £13.33 plus VAT. Might be worth getting 4GB RAM if you are thinking of putting Windows 7 on the ThinkStation? 1

DT2 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Pc2 denotes ddr2. Strange that 3200 is ruining at 333mhz stock. DT
