sparkeh Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Has anyone got SMART 10.8 to work on CC4 with Win 7? I get the "smart notebook has encountered an error in processing program settings" error which, after a bit of research, seem to mean that either you don't have Windows Installer 4.5 installed (Win7 has Windows Installer 5) or you have an issue trying to install it on a Mac (which I am not). Anyone else had issues with this?

Anyone else had issues with this? Hi Yes I am having the same issue. I created a package using the install manager and this works fine on the windows xp machines but I'm getting exactly the same error when opening notebook on a windows 7 machine. So if you've mange to find a solution or anyone else has any ideas I'll be very interested to here. I have contacted Steljes and that have not come across this error before apparently :-( Regards Pete
Michael Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I can confirm Smart 10.8 works on Windows 7 SP1 x86 in vanilla environment. It must be something RM CC4 related as a guess. Do RM have any ideas themselves? I have also installed Smart 10.8 on Macs too with no problems whatsoever. You can still download Smart 10.7 for Windows. You could give that a go and see if the problem occurs with this version.
Hobbsey Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I have got a 10.6 package already that works fine on both operating systems but wanted to build a 10.8 package as one of my schools have training on it, luckly they are using XP so the package i have is working but hit problems when i tried using it on one of my schools that are using w7. I will contact RM but feel they will say they don't support notebook. Regards Pete
Oaktech Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 we've had to package and roll installer 4.5 on our cc3 network to get smart 10.8 to work... PITA!
MattBennett Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Has anyone resolved this?? Is this a CC4 issue or an issue with their Admin Toolkit? No luck getting it to work so far, and I don't really want to use 10.6 on a clean site when they've had training on some new features in 10.8...??
Edu-IT Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 You probably need to make a registry change. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SMART Technologies\Activation Wizard (Or something like that!) Create a new String called Location and enter the following as the value or whatever the location is on Windows 7 to that exe. C:\Program Files\Common Files\SMART Technologies\SMART Product Update\activationwizard.exe 3
sparkeh Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 What he said ^^ For some reason when deploying on CC4 this reg key doesn't get created (I roll it out through the custom reg setting feature), weird as using the same config package on vanilla works fine. Go figure.

Go figure. You mean within the RMMC? Create a seperate registry key? I totally forgot that option. Been manually running a fix on each machine.

MattBennett Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Worked, thanks Still had the issue with it not picking up the setting for the remote gallery, but that's fixed with a registry entry too.
Michael Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 On a related issue, I've found a bug between PowerPoint 2010 and Smart Notebook 10.8 you can read here. This can be fixed with a reg fix in a vanilla or RM network.
gerardsweeney Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Wow - thanks for that ActivationWizard fix.. For what it's worth, using our Altiris rollout script also sees it break on Win7 32 bit. It just runs a big MSIEXEC /i blah blah.. Works perfectly on XP 32 bit but doesn't create this reg key on Win7. You just saved me a TON of time. Gerard
