Exchange, OWA and Domain Name

Hoping someone can give me a bit of a clue as to why we are having an issue with logging into OWA.

 

Basically, using Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari everything works fine. HOWEVER using IE we are having a annoying but not catastrophic issue.

 

You get the pop up box for username and type in your username and password as per the other browsers. This does not log you in though, it errors and gives the username in the box as the site ie. mail.domain.county.sch.uk\Username it should take you there automatically by putting in DOMAIN\Username.

 

If you put in DOMAIN\username it works. This has only changed within the past few weeks but the person that used to manage all this has been made redundant and now I am in charge and I want to fix it! I am guessing it is an IIS issue but not sure where to start looking or what to change.

How to configure Exchange Server 2003 so that users can log on to OWA without entering a domain name

 

This one worked! Decided to do it tonight due to the Cover Manager needing access first thing.

 

Basically had to take off the integrated Windows Authentication off Exchange and Public and make the public site use "\" instead of "DOMAIN".

 

One question, am I opening up the system to security holes by not using the Windows Integration? Wouldnt want to have this as a side effect! Forgive me newbiness with regards to IIS + Exchange!

Use SSL with basic authentication
