IPAD 2 or SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 10.1?

Just been to look at Tablet PCs at PC world. IPAD 2 or SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 10.1? Samsung Galaxy Tab has the latest android software on it.

 

Samsung = better spec (1gb ram as apposed to 512mb, higher res screen, faster processor)

Apple = paying for name maybe, (guaranteed lifetime support)

 

I think both the app store and market are pretty similar in comparison.

 

Please help with your thoughts!

I believe battery life is the Samsungs only real weakness "The biggest disappointment is battery life: in our continuous video test, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 managed just 7hr 18min of playback off a full charge – less than half the life of the iPad 2, and 80 minutes less than the Asus Eee Pad Transformer." could be an issue it you plan on doing alot of reading on the device.

Simple question is: Do you need Flash support?

 

If you don't then the iPad is the best out there. If you do need flash then anything other than an iPad will have to do!

Why make it sound like if you need Flash then you have to compromise by not having in ipad?

It's difficult to just say "the ipad is the best out there"....in terms of what?

 

I think what needs to be asked is what will you use it for? Will you be buying apps, playing games, typing documents, watching movies, surfing the web?

I'm considered pro apple aka Fanboi :hidebehindsofa: so would have to agree with the above statement.

 

I would say iPad but that's only if you don't need or use flash - same might be true for java

I've gotta say that I'd come down on the side of the Galaxy tab.

 

It has a better spec, and that's what you're paying for.

 

Having evaluated an iPad2 for college, I liked it a lot, but as with both tablets, I struggled to come up with a reason to buy it!

As I was explaining to somebody earlier, I suppose it's like a choice between an 8GB Samsung MP3 player or an 8GB Ipod. What would most people choose? Or can the comparison not be judged from that!

Yes, iOS devices tend to get at least two major OS upgrades in their lifetime, i.e the iPhone 3gs has gone from iOS 3 to 4 and now 5. That's well over two years of upgrades for nothing.

 

It's for this reason I'd say get the iPad. Android devices tend to just be thrown out on the market and then badly supported. I.e the original Galaxy tab can't officially be upgraded to the latest android as far as I know, despite being only around a year old.

Also, for the moment as the iPad hogs a massive chunk of the market, the best applications are going to be on the iPad, whereas Android will get warmed over iOS ports, if they are lucky.

given apples recent moves I'd wait out before buying an android based tablet en mass.

 

I think it;'s unlikly but if Apple win you could find support for the galaxy goes the way of the dodo

Reckon you ought to just make a decision, and then tell US why!

again, this all boils down to what you intend to use the device for. there seems to be this age old "apples app store is far better than android market", but it all depends what you want. if the android market has all the apps you want, and an android tablet does all you want it to do, then go for that. if its the other way around, go for the ipad.

 

its sort of like asking which car to buy. there will be some here who say fords are great, some who hate them, some who love vauxhalls, some who despise them. the only way for you to decide is see what you want out of the product and base each one of the items on those criteria

He makes a few good points about the market, as a whole, but I don't believe he's completely right.

 

It IS the iPad market, at the mo, but that IS changing. The rather childish points about how Google name their Android builds is a distraction from what he's trying to say. In some ways, the man is a fool.
