How big is your WSUS We've just started using it and at the moment it seems to be eaten all space I throw at it - The WSUS folder on the server is currently around 40GB, but that's only because that's how big the partition is at the moment. How big is yours? Is 40GB normal? Is it going to grow much more? It seriously seems to eat more than I do, and that takes some doing!
jamesfed Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 You can run WSUS cleanup which will get rid of any out of date/expired updates as well as clean up the WSUS database. Also check your Windows product lists - its all too easy to be running a Windows 7 network but still getting Windows XP updates downloaded if you haven't unticked its box. Either way our update folder is 24GB.

Michael Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Ultimately it depends what options you've specified as others have stated, however I choose the following options: -Critical Updates -Definition Updates -Security Updates -Update Rollups -Updates The options I have chosen are Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Office 2010. My WSUS is currently 13.1GB. I'll post a full user guide exactly what options I use
jamesb Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Very important - check that you're only downloading updates for the appropriate language. 40GB isn't that out of the ordinary, but you may want to strip out any products you don't use/need.

I know about the cleanup but I've already ran that without it doing much. Guess it's time to add another HDD and see how much of that it eats!

Got all I require ticked and it just works gets all the updates once per week on a Sunday and then syncs across the site clients. Hows it going with the new Vanilla network? Will you be up and running for September? How is the Impero working out? All the best

box_l Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 A good trick I have used on servers running out of space is to uninstall WSUS completely, reinstall, then let WSUS populate with machines status before running the synchronize, this way it only goes to get what is needed by the machines. you can bring the space right down this way BoX
