XP Users on EduGeek now a minority group!

Following on from the Windows 8 beta thread earlier I though I'd just check to see what the stats are for people browsing EduGeek on XP based machines, and it came as a bit of a shock TBH. The majority of Windows users at 59.37% are now on Windows 7, with XP trailing at a mere, though not disrespectful, 32.72%. I've included the full breakdowns in the 2 images below showing both OS platforms used and Windows OS. I had to chuckle at the 4 visits from the Windows ME users though. It's nice to know there is someone more stubborn than Simon out there!

I also note that Windows 2000, NT and 98 also have a showing still.

Nothing wrong with NT4.......

As for windows 7 [ or Vista SP3 ] - hate it. Give me XP any day. I use Win7 64bit at work - hate it. Have turned all the bells and whistles off and altough it runs like a stonker on my 8440p vPro Core i7 I still end up running and mainly using an XP VM in it !!

Windows XP PCs breed rootkit infections

Machines running the decade-old Windows XP make up a huge reservoir of infected PCs that can spread malware to other systems, a Czech antivirus company said today.

 

Windows XP computers are infected with rootkits out of proportion to the operating system's market share, according to data released Thursday by Avast Software, which surveyed more than 600,000 Windows PCs.

 

While XP now accounts for about 58% of all Windows systems in use, 74% of the rootkit infections found by Avast were on XP machines. (Source)

I wonder if the results are clouded a bit by the holidays. I'm at home using a Vista laptop, that came that way, if I was at school, it would be XP.

I'm XP at home and school, but at least I have plans to go Win7 at home soon...

I use 7 on my office PC for testing etc but our campus is on XP. I don't mind that my folder redirection is a bit wonky (using 2003 policies) but wouldn't let it out to staff until it's sorted properly

Compared to the same period last year when XP held 49.44% and W7 37.11% it does show a marked decline. Interestingly Vista had a 9.66% share and Macs 5.04%.

So W7 and Macs on the way up and XP/Vista going down.

Me too, one of my home laptops, its really not that bad, at least its not that aged stack of molding patches from 2003.
