which laptops for teachers

Hi would you reccommend HP G62 laptops to purchase for general teacher use at school and home?

HP Laptops - HP G62-b00SA Laptop PC

especially in terms of reliablility, but any other factors too

Hi David, you need to set out your requirements a bit more specifically than just reliability

 

What HDD size will they need (IE lots of programs installed etc)

How much RAM will be needed? (<4GB if 32bit OS, >4GB if 64bit OS)

What sort of OS will be on it?

What about the wireless standard? (B/G/N)?

Sort of slots required (USB, VGA etc, anything special needed?)

My mothers got one in that series and its a nice laptop - but when it comes to staff laptops etc (not that i do anymore) i tend to buy ones which look boring rather then nice shiney and glossy. just because it then looks more like a work laptop and not something they then tend to take out and around with them

 

but thats just my opinion

 

not sure how many you need but BT Business Direct - Lenovo G560 - 15.6" HD LED Screen - Intel Core i3 CPU - 2GB DDR - 250GB HDD - Win7 Home Premium Laptop (M279BUK) thats a pretty good price for the kit

which sounds fine to me, and price good too

might have to be rolled back to xp to be compatable with network and older progs at school

most important perhaps is build quality, ie we have a hp printer and very flimsy

recent hp laptops mostly fairly robust?

We had a batch of 30 HP's last year which all started to develop faults at 13 months old - which HP would not cover - faulty trackpads, bad batteries, or chargers faiiling.

 

This year we went for 40 of the SAMSUNG RV510 - they seem to be very robust and we are yet to have an issue (touch wood) - they are also a fair bit cheaper than the HPS

Thing I hate about dell is they cost cost way to much for parts...

 

We have some Toshiba Satellite C660-1E2 Core i3-380M 2.53GHz 2GB 250GB 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Laptop they have number keys on keyboard to.

where did you get those toshibas? I have personally found toshibas more reliable than dell laptops

Got them from XMA can't remenber how much for but got £100 cash back on them, Always good to shop around! Google I3 laptops or Toshiba I3 and see what you can get.

After dabbling with a few brands I have bought Toshiba Satellite Pros exclusively for the last 5 years. Probably purchased about 100 in that time and had 1 failure which is much better than Dells or Acers I previously bought. Also Toshiba seem to have some good cashback deals on at the moment.

Toshiba Satellite Pros here as well. Got the last batch with £100 cashback as mentioned. Almost identical as the C660 model posted above.

Holy sweet bargain Batman, that Dell's cheap. I just bought one of those from Dells direct without the discrete graphics, and it's a very nice machine.
