We have a server status page which I don't think anyone bothers with, but we're currently building up a Wiki of useful information and video tutorials for general day-to-day tasks.

I have just started to implement an intranet for the school, for staff, and have stopped - as I am going to make use of the 'Learning gateway' software that the LEA provides, which will encourage our staff to use the learning gateway.

Things I am going to have on there will be:

* Server status (this will likely be done with an iframe linking to an page ran on our own web server)

* Access to the helpdesk software

* Access to the room/equipment booking software

* A knowledgebase of common problems and solutions - but I don't think many people will use it...

* Information about when things are scheduled for downtime

I've had stuff on our previous site before including recorded tutorials of how to do stuff but they'd rather ask than look for themselves anyway.

I'm currently using a mediawiki install for the student intranet and another one for ICT Support to record system information so that I have to hand all the system setup info and logins, serials numbers etc...

Thinking of doing one for staff and doing some more wink tutorials for them. If they then ask something that has a tutorial for and they haven't looked at it I'll beat them.

We have:

*Contact us - various ways to get us, descritpion of what we do AND don't do, SLA, maintenance policy and other people to contact for problems

*FAQ - Questions we are constatnly asked but never looked at. Mainly there so we can tell people that they are there. (sure there is a paradox there!)

*Online security and safety - Advice about AV, tools to get, online checks and resources about online safety

*Network Housekeeping - Advice on how they can help us keep it all tidy.

*Helpsheets - List of helpsheets we have made that staff can walkthrough

*School-Link - How to use our external access system

*Proceedures and Laws - A few resources and rules such as the AUP, simplified rule list, links to relevant laws.

As others have said. PRobably used by all of 2 people but at least we can direct people there.

I was just thinkng. 8O

Would it be useful to share the helpfiles, as I imagine most schools would have the same problems.

What I am thinking is if one school has set up a list of help files, say to do with outlook/word etc those files would be of use to other schools.

Not only that it would help me in setting help files in my school. My work load does not allow much spare time to concentrate on compiling my own.

So would any of the posters be prepared to let me see some samples of their helpfiles :?:
