What are your routine Tasks

Hi,

 

What routine tasks do you carry out as a matter of course?

I am looking to streamline the way we do things and insert a more procedural way of working here after a long time of Fire fighting and ad hoc reaction to problems.

 

I am interested in your routine tasks:

 

Daily:

 

Weekly

 

Monthly:

 

Annually:

 

Etc.

 

It would be a big help to me if you could share what you do

Hourly: Make Coffee

 

Daily: Check; Emails, Jobs Portal, Server Backups, AV Console, edugeek and other tech news sites

Weekly: Check; WSUS, Biscuit Tin and Coffee Jar

Monthly: Clean Proj Filters, Check for updated plugins (Flash, Java etc)

Yearly: Update and re-image machines

Automated: Defrag, Machine Shutdown etc

Before Holidays: Make sure; Projectors are off, AutoOn PC's (Recep Display, Library etc)are off at the mains

Daily: Check; Emails, Server Backups, Update digital signage, drink coffee, un-jam printers, play around with new projects (atm, media store, rebuilding freenas drive for backups, virtual desktops (ltsp) etc.

Weekly: Check; WSUS, Biscuit Tin and percolated coffee stock!

Monthly: Clean Proj Filters, Check for updated plugins (Flash, Java etc), tidy office

Yearly: Update and re-image machines

Automated: Delprof, Defrag, Machine Shutdown, software deployment,

 

We used to be firefighting every day. restarting corrupted domain controllers, until we got 2 brand new shiny servers and built a new virtualised environment. We can concentrate on how to develop our IT infrastructure now to further improve and benefit the teaching and learning of the students.

 

Hardly any problems with printers as well since we had them all replaced.
