SimpleSi Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 One of my (Primary) schools has just got a 52in plasma for the staffroom for Wimbeldon (I mean as a digital signage system ) Its to replace the weekly board so the main function needed is to be able to display a calendar (I'm thinking a google online one) which auto updates when the school sec alters it. Anyone running/recommend software for this? (free of course ) Si

I'll third this, we spent a small fortune on having some signage developed, Xibo went and made it look stupid. For free! Set it up and got a nice sign running with a picture gallery, twitter and some scrolling news in about 4 hours.
steve_nfi Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I'll go along with Xibo too. Probably a bit more involved in updating it than some of the shiny web browser based ones but certainly does the job. Once you are used to it you'll sail through changes.
SimpleSi Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Well I've installed it (BTW tried installing XAMPP and the Xibo server on a win7 pro 64bit machine but it wouldn't work so put them on an XP machine instead) I've not done anything with it but has anyone else actually got a dynamic calendar working with it (so school sec can update it from her machine and have it update on the client machine in the staff room)? regards Simon

Simon We have google apps for the school but you can still do this with an individual google account. In your chosen account go to the calendar. Get to the settings page and on the calendar details tab there is the option to Embed this calendar. You may have to play around with different options till you get the look right. Copy the code that is produced. I found that the easiest way to get this to xibo was to create an html page on my intranet and paste the copied code. Then insert that page into a layout in Xibo. You will have to make the calendar public. I could not work out any way to get it to log on automatically. Hopefully you get the idea Regards Ian
