I am trying to get through to the right people in the south west to encourage last minute bookings to the South West Grid for Learning's annual regional conference but seem to only be getting through to school secretaries rather than ICT leads and teachers who are passionate about ICT in the classroom.

The conference is on the 5th of July at the UWE conference centre, Bristol.

I was hoping that by posting a thread we might get the message out there? If anyone thinks they can help by either forwarding on to any external forums they might be part of or by letting me know any suggestions for dissemination amongst ICT professionals working in the education sector I would be hugely grateful.

SWGfL is a charitable trust and the conference is in it's 13th year, we need great numbers every year to make sure that it continues to run.

In anticiaption of the kind support / advice :-)

For me the issue was not so much finance, but time + lack of interest after looking at the advertised info.

Distance was the other major issue for me... South West Grid for Learning holding an event in one of the furthest possible locations from most of its users rather than somewhere central?

Hi Gemma, I think you are in the right place, especially to get he message out to the techies. You might also want to try the ICT forums on TES: ICT - Forums - TES Connect which is where ICT teachers hang out when not on here.

If you have a web site and any further information please feel free to post them up here.

Hi Gemma

I think the problem is that the event has been moved from its old central location of Torquay, it would be interesting to know why there has been a change? There used to be two run I think, the Bristol one for the Chelt/Glos to Somerset area, and the Torquay one for everyone further down! Its Primary Schools that will be worst hit I expect. That being said, I am hoping to attend still, and I will bring it up with Plymouth Schools.

Errrmmm - how is Torquay central to those of us in Dorset and East Devon? We are SWGfL as well!

And those of us in Cornwall!

Maybe we're all missing the obvious actually.... why does a large internet service provider need to create a large physical conference at all?

Why not run the entire conference accross their very expensive infrastructure for us to interact live + watch later?
