contact lense advice

I've just finished my contact lens trial with specsavers who then proceeded to try and rope me into their direct debit scheme.

I passed on it, as I would rather have the option to decide. I've looked online at various sites selling lenses (all at much lower prices than specsavers) but my question is about the spec of the lenses.

I know I can specify the strength of them, but what about the base curve and diameter? the ones i have are BC 8.7 and DIA 14.2 i think. The ones online go as close as 8.6 and 14.4 but would it matter if i went for them?

I'm assuming the diameter is less important but what about the case curve, if i were to get one that is not 8.7, will it affect my eyes?

i know i could ask specsavers but its like asking an apple store which HTC phone to get, they probably won't advise it as its against their own interests.

I have always found Specsavers very good, both with advice and service. I have been using them for years.

 

A friend who had been going to a non-high st optician for years went to them recently, they told him he had been suffering from cataracts.

 

P.S I'm on the monthly contract and think it's well worth the cost.

Sorry, I may have been a bit too critical of Specsavers. I just mean that it might be hard to get impartial advice about buying elsewhere from a company that wants to sell direct to me. I'm not saying that they will be biased, but there is the chance.

 

I'm on the daily lenses at the moment but want to look at monthly ones too, so want to have the option of shopping around

My sister has used on-line suppliers for years and is very happy - you could email them to see about the sizes - they are pretty good. I'll ask her which one

Definitely looking towards monthly lenses rather than daily (cost wise its a massive difference!)

I found the cheapest was Tescos for contact lenses

 

I use the Monthlys ( you sleep in them constantly for a month) Costs me around £10 a month

 

I dont think even online would be cheaper.

Some brands offer only one base curve size, which is more common among brands of soft contact lenses. People who wear hard contact lenses need more choices when it comes to base curve sizes, because of the inflexible, rigid nature of these lenses. The base curve is a number from 8.0 to 10.0 on your prescription.

 

It looks like the diameter is more important than the curve with soft contact lenses.
