The new syllabus (which I think is OCR, but may be AQA) requires an element of "blogging", which can be electronic or (in the event of the Amish / luddites) a personal journal.

Let's set aside the child safety implications for the moment, we'll come to those.

I have two possible ways of doing this:

1) Using Moodle 2.0's blogging feature. It's AD-integrated, content-moderated and it's backed up. Downside is that (by default) your average 11 year old girl who's crazy about ponies can't easily splatter a pony theme across her moodle blog, so it's not as enticing to the kid.

2) Using a Wordpress's multi-site option, hosted locally. Ponies galore, but it drives traffic away from the VLE. Options for moderation unclear atm, LDAP integration of unknown reliability.

How do you do yours?

We use a Wordpress mu setup for our media and technology studies.

We currently don't have any AD or LDAP integration but will be looking into this - if we can get it to work - we will make blogs available to all students.

Does anybody know any good AD / LDAP modules that will automatically create wordpress mu accounts as well as use password credentials direct from our AD? - Is their such a thing?
