ctaylor Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) Hi All, Havent had much luck getting any information from SIMS so far (shocked face) We are a large school and would like to audit the permissions staff have in SIMS. Is there a way to run off a list/report of staff names and the groups they belong to? Also my manager wants to know if there is a report which can be run once a day for example to show what changes have been made to pupil records and who by. Any help appreciated. If you search on SupportNet there will be more information there, but i do recall a thread on here where someone listed some of the features, i think it was a workshop for testing or something that was attended by some of the guys here.

Hi Charlotte, I am also interested in this. I notice in Tools > Setup there is an option labelled 'Data Change Management' which can be turned on but with a warning about resource consumption. Does anyone have any experience of using this? It seems to say that it only tracks certain data items, does anyone know which. Lastly, where is the log document stored? If I get a chance I might test it myself, but thought it might be useful to get some feedback here first. Thanks, Jonny.
matt40k Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I'm afraid @Ecclesbury this isn't what you think it is, it's solely for 3rd party applications such as Bromcom WebFolder. You can't use it for auditing. System Manager 7 will have audit logs for logins, but not much else, you still have audit logs in the particular areas - for example the changes of attendance marks etc. We did ask it all to be pulled through so you could centrally report on everything from SysMan, but I think that'll be a bit future down the line.

matt40k Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I've asked for the backup path to be included in the sys info, so you could take the backup from there, the idea being S3 will backup daily (overnight) and you can take the last nights backup (assuming you have access to the folder) - so you want affect the performance. I did speak briefly with Jon about have a upload feature but it's really a back burner as there SFTP is pants (putting it politely).
Sivadam Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) The big snag with that idea is the assumption that I will have access!. Once we are taken over by BSF & the hosting company then this may not be the case! Though here is one person who will be fighting to maintain access to the database! It is absolutely essential that somebody like myself has access to a Sysman Backup so that I can get a dataset to UAT and/or Capita Support as soon as it is requested! If it is not present in System7, and an alternative is not provided, then we will still have to use Sysman6 to do it - until they switch that off. And that is just plain stupid! I never want to touch Sysman6 again once System7 is with us! My suggestion was well supported at the UAT I attended. If the idea was squashed after the second UAT then I will be shouting very loudly at some senior staff at Capita about the issue! Edited May 13, 2011 by Sivadam
