Shutdown Software (again sorry)

We are looking for a GUI application that can shut down Windows and Apples..

 

Also it should only shut down the logged out Computers...

 

There are tooo many script based thingies .. need a nice simple GUI

All you need is a simple batch file to do a WOL and then do a shutdown a minute or two later. Quick, simple and free and all you need to do is double-click the file to run it. You could even design a web front end with a map of your school's IT rooms.

Unless I'm missing something, why would you want to wake a computer up that is already turned off, when the aim is to turn off computers? That's like me driving to Newcastle to get to Durham.

Only thing I can guess is if it's an attempt to check which machines have people already logged on. But I'm sure it'd error the same if computer is on, or logged in.

 

 

But to OP when you say GUI, You wanting a picture of every computer/user logged on etc? Or just buttons rather than command-line etc?

 

Seems easiest way to just using a script, and if you want GUI link it to those buttons?

like Shutdown /i gives you a GUI and cmd shutdown or a bat file is script..

 

I don't want pictures I just want a simple program that can see if a machine Apple or PC is logged on and if not shuts it down

 

and I would like it to be run at a certain time each day as i would use Shutdown /i to shutdown PC's on the fly

The only program I can think of that is remotely similar would be something like NetSupport - it gives you thumbnails of whats on a computers screen so you could set this up and look through the screens and hit shutdown but it wouldn't be automated I don't think, but you could get a thumbnail view of every desktop so you'd be able to see if it a machines at the logon screen - not ideal though if you have several hundred workstations.

Not sure might be worth while checking ( obviously paid for software ) Apple remote desktop - not sure if you can use that to execute that sort of thing on windows, although for the windows side would be easy enough to collate all the mac addresses of each of the windows machines and use a wol utility in conjunction with a bat script to execute the wol packets

I just use a VB Script to run @ 21:00 via task scheduler, not tried on macs.
