Geoff Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 What happens if you recursively take ownership of the directory structure?
Netman Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Sounds like it may be a malformed filename.. have had this problem once or twice before... try to drill down to the particular file and rename it or delete it on it's own...
6Foot2 Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 I can only share the foder above 'marketing and promotional strategy' When I do and navigate to that location I can't delete the 'marketing and promotional strategy' folder [if that is what it is] Hovering over the folder with the mouse tells me that the folder is empty and viewing details confirms that the folder size is 0 Kb. It is completely inaccessible as far as I can tell.
maniac Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Try deleting it in DOS using the DEL command, I've found this works sometimes as I've had simelar problems in the past with files, never worked out what causes them! Also double check the security on the folder. Mike.
djm968 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I have seen this before and cannot remember how I cured it but I am sure one of these links solved it. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320081 http://www.theeldergeek.com/delete_undeletable_file.htm http://www.bootdisk.com/xptop20.htm#8
6Foot2 Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 Hi all. Decided to try the command: RD Cached /s again from the 99KhanN folder level. It worked!. The only thing I can say that I know is different now compared with this morning is that I asked the system to check drive D:\ on the server for errors, which it could not do. It is now scheduled to do this scan after the next restart. This can’t be the reason it worked though. I suppose in all of the testing and all of the other commands I have tried over the last three and a half hours something, or a combination of things has stuck and allowed the file to be deleted. Now I have the problem of waiting for the server to come back up after the next restart and subsequent scan of the D:\ drive.
6Foot2 Posted June 4, 2007 Author Posted June 4, 2007 Just cured a similar problem on a diffrerent server. I don't know what caused it. The only way I could cure it without restarting the server [and thus getting howls of protest from staff] was to connect via Remote Desktop through Internet Explorer and then delete the folder. I just would not delete when logged on as Administrator, locally or on the domain. Good old Remote Desktop!
apeo Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Encountered something similar to this on a portable usb HDD and fixed it by checking the disk for errors. I didnt have to delete the files/folders, when it was finished checking the files/folders just vanished.
