What a difference...

When the staff and kids are in school, I barely get time to do anything of major consequence...today, in 2 hours, I got the following done.

 

• UPS Moved from cupboard to server cab
  
• Server Moved from cupboard to server cab
  
• Switches Reconfigured
  
• SIMS Update on all machines (25 machines in total)
  
• Service Pack 1 on all machines (195 machines in total)

 

I am glad its done so I am now taking a well earned rest then will crack on again in half hour or so

I know, it’s an amazing feeling actually being able to achieve something with your time

 

I find getting jobs done is remarkably easy when the teachers and pupils are not about to interfere with the process.

 

Enjoy the feeling. I'm looking forward to doing the same next week!

It's nice at the start of the holiday, but by the end I'm always a little bit bored as I do miss the hussle and bussle of a school day and the challenges that come with it. Edited April 11, 2011 by maniac

Seconded. I tend to find we run out of work to do so end up creating jobs. Cleaning things is often one of them, especially in our office.

I always got caught up in two kinds of holidays during school breaks.

 

1. Work like mad and get everything done in a matter of days then sit around drinking coffee and doing intresting project stuff.

2. Try and work like mad but due to an external contractor either not turning up/not delivering kit having to run around until 7pm each of the remaining few days of the holidays to finish off in time.

 

There never seem to be a middle ground

hooray - at last a chance to get stuff done, although it's cleaning first for me I'm afraid (Mind you whose idea was it to take the power down later today )

I think this summer at one of the schools I work at will be dead, as we're due to have a new building opening 2012 so there's little to no investment in ICT at the moment, we're at the 'keep it all going another year please' stage. Unfortunitely they'll be lots for me to do as I'm in charge of overseeing the new building ICT, but for the technicians at that school a long summer of cleaning and general maintenance is probably all that's on the cards.

Done today;

Tested and Deployed ActivStudio Resources

Packaged, tested and deployed Adobe CS5 Masters

Unpacked, imaged and installed several new PCs

Recovered 200 lost pictures from a laptop

Helped measure out a space for a laptop trolley, moved it to the location half way across the site.

Researched and (hopefully) fixed a DNS issue.

Ordered loads of new toners, drums, etc.

Changed a developer cart in the printer on other side of site.

All the while averting my gaze from the inappropriately dressed pupils doing revision classes - another debate but it is annoying having to check that teh stairs are clear before walking up them and seeing girls holding down what could barely be considered a belt! grr!

Well we are now in cleaning mode. I said to the head, give us a day and we will have done our entire backlog, I said its impossible when the staff and kids are in to do our work properly as we are constantly disturbed. Now we have caught up, clean out in our office is in order, and most of the way done with that too!

So that's a big skip outside the window then hehe

 

For me it was go visit @Ric_ for a printer or two and a drewl over his shiny Lync system (which is very nice!), eat lunch then start to tidy the 2nd store room, got 2 bin bags full of rubbish already and a large WEEE pile

I tend to find I get more done without my manager around!!

 

I tend to do a lot of work late at night like this and get it done without questions.
