Okay, I want to get away on May 27th (Friday until Monday - 3 nights) with the missus and the dog. I'm sick of looking at UKCampsite, and other camp site search sites, so could someone please recommend me a campsite within a couple of hours (strictly) of Durham. Durham, Northumberland, Cumbria, North Yorkshire are all possibilities.

I need a site that allows the dog, a big tent, and electric hookup for the tent (the missus would go crackers if she couldn't use her straighteners!). I don't want to pay top dollar either, and we prefer a quiet site. If there's a pub on site, or within walking distance that's a plus. Also, we might be joined by my brother, wife, and niece for one night so child friendly would be essential too.

Any recommendations?

Might be a bit out of your way but I can recommend SkireThorns Wood Nook campsite at Threshfield just outside Grassington. Has some great walks up out at the back.

Wood Nook Caravan Park , Skipton Campsites, North Yorkshire

Been there a few times (camping and caravanning) and it's a nice site. Nice people run it.

That's right on the 2 hour mark, according to Google Maps so that is within the distance. Price looks about right, and it has a playground so ticks all the boxes. Just sent them an email to see if they have availability

With it being a bank holiday, that site is going to cost £28 per night with EHU! No good I'm afraid

Ah well, still a nice one to consider for the future .. I'd offer you to camp in my field, but we don't have amenities outside, EHU and all that .. lol .. (I'm on the Yorkshire borders in Colne just off Kelbrook Moor .. lol) .. though there is a lovely pub just over the hill .. :)

When I said within 2 hours, I meant I was driving an Astra, not a Bugatti!

You haven't seen the Astra's round here then!!

In fact, you hear them then just see a streak of colour as it passes by...

The damn things could outrun one of the new EuroFighters!!

Just had email off them, and they only do 5-night minimum stays, so no good. Will definately give it a look over summer, but now I need another suggestion please.

Just found a Ripley campsite in Harrogate, and at £21.50 for a night with EHU and the dog, it's around our price mark. Have you been to this one (or anyone else been to this one for that matter?)?

Have a look at this one Beachcomber Campsite - Goswick my cousin stayed here last summer and it is dog friendly right next to the beach. When the tide is out you can walk over to Lindisfarne. The access road however is very bumpy with fair sized holes, mind that was last year they may have fixed it by now.

Have stayed on this one myself Welcome to Budle Bay Campsite - Situated in beautiful Northumberland close to Bamburgh Castle

Ooooh just found this and it looks lush might give a try myself with the van http://www.fallowfielddene.co.uk/

Tjis looks lovely too http://www.demesnefarmcampsite.co.uk/index.php

The Green Dragon, Hardraw - pub, waterfall, what more do you need ?

The Green Dragon Inn Campsite , Hawes Campsites, North Yorkshire

That's only for small tents, so no good I'm afraid

Try the Wild Rose Campsite at Appleby.

Home

It's a while since I stayed there but it was a good site a mixture of statics and touring plus an area for campers.

Stayed here last year. I enjoyed it, but I want to leave this camp site for the warmer weather (July/August) so I can make use of the pool! :)

Seems to only have EHU for caravans

£3 to take the dog per night?!

Phoning them up now! :D

Think this is definately a one for the future!

Phoned up, but the fella said they are "chocka" (his word!) that weekend. Definately in my bookmarks of campsites to visit though.

Phoned up, and they can accomodate us. Pubs/Grub houses 100 yards away, plenty of walks nearby, exactly what we wanted - at £15 per night including EHU it's a bargain. Thanks Jax!

No worries Hightower I have been looking for myself for this coming easter and summer. Glad to help though. I will throw more in when I get home as have sackloads there too that you may find useful over the holiday period. :)

I was wanting to do France this summer for a fortnight, but looking at it I might just do 2 or 3 weeks in the UK. France can wait until next year. :)

Am planning on driving up to John O Groats and mosy round up there found a fab site with 5 ACRES on the beach at Dunnet Head. We are also hoping to fire over to Orkney in one of the vans and go see Skara Brae. We will follow the east coast all the way up and stop along the way. I had been hoping to get away at easter but the rock and roll seats are being fitted second week of the holidays. :)

I would strongly recomend Shell Island. Campsite | Camping | Day Trips | North Wales | Shell Island I went couple of years back and was so impressed. You can beach cast, crab fishand fly kites etc, it has a private beach with massive sand dunes for kids to play in. BAR WITH CHEAPISH BEER! disco karaoke, arcade room (nothing spectacular has pool table) shower block and wash facilities for pots pans etc for the price i thought it was fantastic. Edited by busby

We went here last summer. Nice campsite, though a little windy. Although it says no EHU with tent, they seemed very flexible, so I wouldn't think it's impossible (spose it depends how busy they are). Certainly worth a try!

Looks like I'm a bit late, but the recommendation's there for anyone else!

The reason they probably don't do the hookup for tents is the caravan pitches are likely to be hardstanding. I would hate to pitch my tent on the hardstanding pitches.
