Rawns Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Race abilities don't change, you get them at level 1 for free and they stay the same forever (or until blizzard nerfs/buffs them!). +rep for that last bit. X-13, Night Elves are good, they are the tallest race so look big and bulky with nice gear. However, they are Alliance (which for reasons I can't understand, some people don't like and want to play as Horde) - I have a 71 Blood Elf Warlock which I like, but am also levelling a Worgen Hunter. I won my copy of Cataclysm so though "why not" and fell off the wagon. They do look sweet as well.
Dom_ Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Only the starting stats are different, so don't pick a race based on stats (it'll be about 1dps difference at level 85, when you're doing 15k+!)
X-13 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 X-13, Night Elves are good, they are the tallest race so look big and bulky with nice gear. ... wow. Night Elf FTW. Only an hour or so until I can download, install and try this out.
Dom_ Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 The download is a lot better now too, originally you had to download the whole 12GB or so, to start playing, now you need to download about 300MB (maybe a bit more), and it downloads areas as you play! ;-)

I'm fed up of having to download massive installer packages with estimated times of about a week.
Dom_ Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Have you decided on a realm? Come to Azjol Nerub! :-) (I'm about due to start a new alt anyway.. :-P)
X-13 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Don't trial accounts only have access to one realm?
Dom_ Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I don't think so? I was able to do the 10 day cata trial on a realm I had existing chars on, might be different for you though...
RTFM Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Warlock is a fun race. It's all about doing lots of slow painful damage to others. Plus you get a awesome pet. Things may have changed, but when you went high end with a lock you switched from DoT's to destro and it was all crit crit crit on your shadowbolt. Like i said earlier in the thread, i've not played since WotlK was released when i had a lock kitted with some bits of T6 so things may have changed now but that was how it went. Destro locks had much better DPS for raiding (though it could be a bit harder to grind as destro if you didnt get that first crit).
Rawns Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Have you decided on a realm? Come to Azjol Nerub! :-) (I'm about due to start a new alt anyway.. :-P) I'm tempted to roll a rogue or pala. I could be interested in jumping in on that action.
Guest TheLibrarian Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 IMO undead have the best racial ability - canabalise - every minute or so you get the ability to eat humanoid npc corpses. It just has to be done when one of those mobs has irritated you; OK, OK, I know they aren't real but I like to humiliate the mobs every now and again anyway.
X-13 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 I'm installing the trial now. Someone [anyone] send any referrer details I need.
Guest TheLibrarian Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I'd suggest sending your e-mail address to DOM_ so he can refer you assuming you will play on Azjol Nerub (which is not PvP). Should you decide you want to play a PvP realm send them to me. Once one of us has your e-mail address we can send the referal.
Guest TheLibrarian Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 He's probably still playing - World of Warcrack has his soul.
X-13 Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 So did you sample the goods X-13? Yup. Made a Night Elf Rogue on an old e-mail so I can piss about testing characters. Almost woke up early to get some WoW in before work... Mainly because I want to remake the character to get a cape. Free cape > free belt. I found by the time I got to the first armour shop I could buy a full set. Which didn't include a cape. Free cape should add a bit more defence.
Dom_ Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I'm tempted to roll a rogue or pala. I could be interested in jumping in on that action. Do it! I'm yet to try a pala/shammy, so will probably roll healer.

Guest TheLibrarian Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Yup. Made a Night Elf Rogue on an old e-mail so I can piss about testing characters. Did you choose a PvE realm or PvP?
X-13 Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 The stuff you can buy from vendors is trash - when you hit 5 or 6 you start getting greens which add stats (you'll look awful), but be a lot better! Hmm... interesting. I still want the cape though. There's a few quests that give belts, so I can sack the one I got instead of the cape and get another one. Did you choose a PvE realm or PvP? PvE. I'm not really into PvP. I prefer questing. I almost went for a RP server... It auto suggested it and I had to manually change it. Plus this is my character test. Once the time has gone for this, I'm going the referral from Dom_ which wuold be another 10 days... then I may get the battle chest which should be another 30 days. Then I can decide if I can afford it. [i probably can... Just quitting smoking would more than cover it.]
Guest TheLibrarian Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 [i probably can... Just quitting smoking would more than cover it.] Smoking may just slightly be better for you. Going with Dom_ is the better choice I'd say; I doubt our playing times would coicincide often and that would reduce your benefits from the RAF.
Dom_ Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Wow addiction > smoking addiction! You'll probably spend most of your money on skills at low level (accessible through the spellbook) - trained by your class trainer. If you get any cloth - save it (when you start playing properly) - you can auction low level cloth for loads! :-) I'd also recommend picking up mining and/or herbalism, you can level them as you quest, and they give a nice boost to XP. They're also great for making money while levelling (again throught the auction house). Download the auctioneer mod from curse-gaming (just copy the directory into program files>world of warcraft>addons. It gives you a lot more options when auctioning, and saves loads of time!
CAM Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Spend it on bags. Big bags. More bags mean more loot and more money between visits to town.
X-13 Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Spend it on bags. Big bags. More bags mean more loot and more money between visits to town. For a second I thought you were saying I was a girl and should spend my money on handbags... 'Cause I actually do need a new bag...
browolf Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I hear blizzard/wow are going to introduce rift-like public quests. They must be worried!
