MK-2 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 BBC News - Apple sues Amazon over 'Appstore' name What I love is this line from Apple: "Consumers of mobile software downloads are likely to be confused as to whether Amazon's mobile software download service is sponsored or approved by Apple." Despite the fact elsewhere in the article it says: Amazon's Appstore will offer downloadable applications for Google's Android operating system Here's a clue Apple, you barely approve of any apps in the Apple App Store, I highly doubt people on an Android phone will be thinking "oohh should I download this Android App, I'm not sure if Apple have approved it for use on my HTC Desire". Following suit I will be suing all schools who have a website with the word "school" in, because some parents may not be able to tell the difference between my school and your school website.

They've fought with Apple Corps for 30 years (company formed by the beatles), and they went to court with Cisco a while back; turns out Cisco trademarked the iphone name.... They settled out of court for mutual usage.

They registered the trademark back in the year 2000. There is no crossover between Apple's store and Amazon's (they serve different markets), and both brands are massively strong on their own, regardless of the name of the store. People buy apps from 'Itunes' not the App Store. It isn't even a recognisable brand name. Just like people will buy their apps from 'Amazon' and forget the App Store bit. Not to mention, I don't think 'App' could be trademarkable, as others had used it before Apple, and it is rather generic now.

You know, because when we're in Asda and buy two Apples for 39p we might be confused over whether we are purchasing some edible goods or two mobile phones. What with us being thick and everything and not being able to work out differences between things unless you look out for us and sue the confusing parties!
