Yes, I agree it would also be difficult. Contributing to and working on Moodle would be a better way forward I reckon.

I agree also. Or find some other already existing web software and modify it for use in school(s)

link into our CMIS database using SQL.

is that sort of thing possible with sims?

@Plugged in - if you are going to maintain a seperate database to your MIS system then the fields you need to generate in your SQL database are basically the fields you want to be able to pull out and display in your VLE.

So First name, second name, pupil ID no, Year group, form etc. would all be usefull.

But before you go looking at what data you need to pull out you need to have a good think about what your VLE is going to be used for and therefore what data is going to be needed. Are you going to want to filter out content based on year groups, Key stage, Attainment levels, attendance levels etc.

plugged_in: If you're going to start something like that, have you considered using one of the MVC frameworks for PHP, eg CakePHP or Code Igniter?

This is what i plan to create.

Am i missing anything??

• Teacher can create online tests.

• Teachers are able to create five types of questions.

• Teachers are able to set Duration for each online test.

• Teachers are able to View student's reports in different ways depending upon the group of student, Report can be viewed as a pie chart or Bar Chart.

• Students are able to view tests prepared by their Teachers.

• Students can solve tests only within the time frame decided by their Teacher otherwise student is logged out automatically.

• A detailed report of the test given by student is sent to there Parent.

• Teacher and student both have the facility to change the Password.

Right now nothing, but by the end of the project you're probably missing sanity ;)

I probably will go mad. I am going to document my progress and take it from there. It would be nice to watch it grow.

Ok off now to the BECTA site to read what they say about the laws of building a VLE on the web.
