Computer Chairs

[align=justify]Could anyone recommend a company to buy from or even a chair that is good for someone like me with a bad back?

Since spending more time in my computer chair i have started to stuff from a bad back and the current chairs we have were only cheap and not the most comfortable or best for spending long period of time sat on.

i been given money to spend on a suitable chair but theirs so many I don’t know which one would be suitable or comfortable. [/align]

Not strictly an answer to your question I'm afraid, but while we're on the subject, can I recommend Abacus Office Equipment in Kendall who have developed a line of chairs (with Lancashire CC I think) for students use. Apart from the lift/lower handle they have no twirly knobs for kids to nick (the chairs can be adjusted, but they need the appropriate tools). They also come on glides so no racing around the classrooms! We got some in a big refurb that the county did for us in Technology, and were so impressed, we ordered a load more! In 2 years, they haven't been damaged yet (apart from the usual wear of course).

I bought quite a nice one in Staples for about £120 a while back. However, what is good for me isn't necessarily good for you. The best thing you can do is go to a furniture shop and try a few out for yourself.

Getting one of those lumber roll things can help. That way you can put it any chair. The other obvious thing is just to watch your posture and not get into bad habits that may be causing the bad back.

I found some nice ones in the Remploy catalogue the other month, most furniture firms that supply schools will be willing to leave a sample for you to try out for a month or so and see what you think. I know in the Heads office we have some very nice ones that are high backed and they bend and flex in about 4 places just on the back and the seats tip up and down back and forward every which way etc, they are very comfy I like them, but I think they were VERY expensive, but I suspect they are also Remploy chairs.

 

Andy cheers for the pointer bout the student chairs, I need to get about 40 to replaced damaged and worn out chairs and the SMT want ones without too many knobs and handles to snap off this time. So I will give them in Kendal a ring

If I was buying for myself I would go for a Herman Miller Aeron. They're not cheap, but by far the most comfortable chair this backside has been on!

 

Configurable backrest, pitch, lumbar support, arm rests, etc

 

Could get one on *bay for 200-300 quid.

Having had an operation on a prolapsed disk, I've recently had my chair at school replaced.

 

The one I have is the same as I use at home - very comfy and adjustable in all the right places.

I wish I had room for a chair. For 3 days a week I have to sit on a hard wooden topped stool in the tiny server room as the head doesn't like me sitting in the IT suite working.

Health and safety...... Get on to your LEA and if your school is independent join Unison and get them involved.
