mrbios Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 I have another question! Is it possible to set time locks? So that a door only works during set times of the day? or even better so that a door only works for specific members of staff during a given time of day?
plexer Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yes you can and you can also have automatic open periods on maglocked doors and also on the battery handle doors too if you wish. To clarify you can for instance only give your cleaners access to doors in the school during their working hours but at no other times, restrict teachers to mon - fri basically any combination you desire. I would think that all access control systems can do everything I've mentioned but I just find the flexibility of the SALTO battery stuff to be emense. Ben 1

frosty Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Not sure if it will help but we use these guys Access It Data Ltd. We have Access Control on Doors, Time Schedules, Visitor Manager, Contractor Manager. We also have our own card printer (Magicard Rio 2e).

frosty Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Access It Data: Ad Integration - no. When we first set up the system we exported all staff from SIMS instead in a csv and set up that way. It was easier for us as we have very little staff turnover so we decided to keep it simple and just set up a new staff member\user as tehy come and go. Printers - Ours are HP MFP's and we use Pcounter. Pcounter is AD intigrated and can be used with MFP's etc. Access It is not integrated into print managment (Sorry didn't read thread properly - my bad!) We have our own HID reader in the office to provision cards and of course print our own with our own design dependent on who the end user is; Sixth Former, Staff Member, Contractor etc. Think that was all the queries...happy to answer anymore q's :-) 1

Very good system, all staff and students have cards (some have fobs or wristbands as well) - we have around 20 doors on the system and expanding it year on year. Very cost effective, and it just sits there and works. Be happy to go through more details with you if required, just PM me.
localzuk Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Active Directory - No integration. We didn't have enough users to need to do any integration, so we manually set it up. However, you can import from .csv. Printers - there's no reason why it can't integrate in one way or another. We use PaperCut MF here and if you get the right USB card readers (ie. keyboard emulating ones) you can get them to work with Ricoh copiers at least. (We haven't done this yet). However, this would require you to put the ID numbers as scanned from the cards into your Papercut/Active directory separately. You can print cards directly from the management program, to a card printer. Or get them printed externally and then import them using a desktop reader. The system has all the standard access control abilities - timed access, alarms, etc... It can also be integrated with alarm systems and lighting, so for example, a person could swipe their card and it would trigger the alarm to disable, and all the corridor lighting to turn on school-wide. We get ours installed by a couple of local security companies (TLS and Coomber Security). However, speak to Paxton and they'll point you to your nearest one. 1

Copier support for card readers is something of a black art. some copiers will take anything keyboard emulating some require the PID and VID of the USB reader to be added to a "white list" on the machine some require a separate license on the machine to effectively enable the USB port so a card reader will work some only work with readers supplied from the copier manufacturer - these often need drivers installed first on the machine. some copiers are so closely tied to a print/copy solution that they make it so only 1 type of reader will work and don’t open that up to other applications running on the machine. As you say Paxton and Ricoh MFD's not an issue. Paxton use (in our experience) two types of technology for the cards its either HiTag2 or Mifare both types of readers are readily available. Ricoh copiers are pretty good at accepting cards as well, assuming they have the right SDK (ESA) version. I won’t bore you with what is actually read from the card or how different readers can read different numbers from a card.
