[android] Help! Android won't start

Hi, I have 2 LG Optimus One phones. I rooted one with success, the other now doesn't start at all. It stays on the green android logo for ages, and doesn't load into Android.

 

What can I do? I'm fairly technical and have been looking into roms etc, but I'm just not sure where to start!

 

And it's my wife's phone....

can you boot into recovery mode and restore your last backup (you did one, right..) ??

 

install the android debug bridge, then run

adb logcat

and see where it is getting stuck

Thanks. Backup? What backup....?

I have managed to do a forced reset (Vol-, Home, Power). Does boot up, however there are no icons anywhere, and virtually no functionality on the phone.

If the USB connection is not working, how can I put a rom onto the phone? At this point, I've made a backup of the sd card, and am happy to reset the phone to get it working, just not sure how.

the adb app shouldn't need the phones USB mode, you can use the adb commands pull and push to copy files to and from the phone without the phone mounting the sdcard (or you could put the rom on the sdcard with an adapter)

If I do adb logcat, I get -waiting for device- and nothing happens.

I used z4root to root the device which worked fine. On reboot, it was working then after a while it began to run very slowly. Rebooted, and now it won't boot into android.

What does your wife have a phone for? She should be in the kitchen doing the washing up....

Actually, whenever I reboot, I get stuck on the loading android screen. It never actually boots into the OS, unless I do a hard reset.

Did you wipe the caches beforehand? That seems to be the biggest cause of all problems, closely followed by not doing an MD5 check of the ROM.

I think your going to have to head over to the xda forums and see if there any experts over there - googling for z4root problems doesn't bring a warm feeling though

 

You might be at take it back to the shop and saying "it just stopped working"

I had a problem similar to this with mine. It was working okay then I was playing around with moving Dalvik to SD and it went into a loop with the Android logo. I re-flashed the ROM and everything was great, better than before. I can only assume the flashing did not complete on the first go.

Did you install ClockworkMOD or anything like that? What kind of menu do you get if you start the phone up whilst holding Vol-?

Did you install a recovery such as clockwork, all the guides normally tell you to do that,

then all you do is takeout the battery, re-insert, hold down a combination of buttons

while powering on this then takes you into recovery mode.

Well, in the end the phone got to a state where it wouldn't even turn on. Took it back to the shop, as it 'just stopped working'. All fixed now, and the wife is a bit more happy ;-)
