Those wonderful people over at Spiceworks have just dropped me a line to let us know that they have created an iPhone app which is now available for download on the iTunes app store.

The app will allow you to see devices, work tickets, access user info etc.

oooh very nice :) Now I just need campus wide decent wifi and an iPhone / iPod then job done full Spiceworks on the move, although the emails and email tag commands do work pritty darned well as I do use them :)

So, do you guys use the spiceworks helpdesk?

Yes, to my knowledge they both do.

 

Looks a pretty good app although with so many dislikes about the way the helpdesk works, I've decided to move away from it.

Yup I do have used it for eer about 3 years now in 2 schools very good tool :)

 

As for moving away Edu-IT, whats wrong with it? Feed it back to Spiceworks if its a problem / issue / annoyance and they will try to fix it as I am sure they would like to know what issues you have with it :)

I'll take a look at this on Monday on my iPad, not got an iPhone.

 

Been using this for about 3 years now, integrated with AD, so users don't have to log in.

Well, we were primarily using it for the help desk and there were lots of other bells and whistles within Spiceworks that we just didn't use. Plus as they keep adding more and more features which we just don't need, it is becaming bloated in my opinion for what we need and unfriendly to use.

 

I want a simple application that is just a help desk and to me, Spiceworks isn't it.

 

That is not to say that Spiceworks isn't any good because as you all know, it is. Just I feel the helpdesk side of it was not the best and the attention seems to be focused elsewhere now.

Iv installed the app and the latest version of spiceworks.

 

in Internet explorer we type http://whsserver01/dashboard to get to spiceworks

 

but the app will not take the server name i just get server error.

 

Iv tried with

 

http://whsserver01

http://IPADDRESS of server

http://whsserver01/dashboard

 

Non of which seem to work.

 

Im attached wireless to the network with no issues.

 

can anyone point me in the right direction.

Are you getting any particular error messages?

 

Also have you updated your Spiceworks install to the latest version, currently 5.0.62863

I am presuming you are logging in with the correct Username and Password?

 

May be worth a reboot of both your phone and Spiceworks install...

 

Shot in the dark... your phone is not being blocked by your firewall, I saw this happen and had to create a rule in our ISA server to allow the phone data through (also had to give the phones a static IP)
