How bricking my Desire has made me a ROM addict

Had my Desire now for a few months and installed many ROM's. If you want Sense then RCMix HD is a solid Rom. Been excellent for me for daily use. It's a HD rom port but been beautifully done, plus you get the latest Sense, and all the goodies that go with it.

I want to install this but it seems really complicated. It says you need to partition your drive and set up swap drives or something :confused: I know there is an option in ROMManager to partition your SD card but i'm still a bit unsure.

 

On Oxygen still. Tried Pinky and Frost (both sense ROMS) last night but I missed Oxygen's cleanness and speed.

It really is a great ROM, I love it myself. Battery life doesn't seem as good as Cyanogen (although I'm still using the same radio version as I had with Cyanogen, might find out if there's a better one for use with Oxygen).

 

Does anybody know if the Nexus One has Gingerbread yet? Once it does, there should be a stable Oxygen Gingerbread release not far away...

What's more, I don't know if anyones awaere of this but if your phone has a Voice Dialer, you can speak to word PROXY into it and it brings up hidden proxy settings. So technically Oxygen does have a proxy option. It may take a while though; I was sounding every vowel and consonant with more care than the Queen herself and it was still coming up with ridiculous suggestions.

Yeah I noticed that. I'm on RC7 at the moment, and all posts seem to say Gingerbread for the Nexus is coming 'soon', but they don't give a date.

CyanogenMod installed.

 

How do I resynch my Gmail account? Am I in the right place where it is asking for server settings? No matter what I put in there it comes back with ' Unable to open connection to server'

You just add it as an account in Settings > Accounts & Sync

 

If you're getting connection errors, daft as it may sound - have you checked you have a connection to the net at all? Might be you need to change your radio (if you haven't already)

Have you installed the Google Addon?

 

I ticked the Google Apps option when flashing if that is what you mean.

 

Edit: Or did I? I had to install from SD in the end so maybe I didn't. How do I now do that?

Go to cyanogenmod.com, click downloads>your phone model and there should be a seperate download for Google Apps. Cyanogen mod have to leave it out of the main install for copyright reasons I belive. Then just install it in recovery mode. If all else fails it may be worth wiping, clearing cache data etc and re-installing.

 

I take it you've installed a stable version of CM?

Yeh. Found that and downloading to SD. If not I will try over Wifi at home later.

 

It's the latest stable version.

Yes, you should still have market, although it probably won't work until you have synced to your Google account

Account is now synched. I will have to have another go at flashing when I get home.

I'm just waiting on Oxygen coming up with a Gingerbread release too, hopefully it won't be too much longer now. Unfortunately, I modded my Desire with a rom called NextSense, which had a few benefits that I wanted at the time. I found that there were some aspects of Sense that I wanted to keep, the camera for one, it's much better than the stock Android camera. However, the mod I used had a nasty American version of Google Maps installed (she kept asking me to turn left at the traffic circle, etc... Arghh!) and in trying to remove this and replace it with the standard British version I managed to bork it and have been without maps (or sat-nav) for the last 3 or 4 months, a nuisance that I'd like to correct once there's a decent Gingerbread mod out.

 

I think I've settled on Oxygen as my preferred candidate down to good reviews of it here, and the fact that a work colleague is using the Open Desire rom and rates it well too. I believe I'm right in thinking they both have the same developer.
