2097 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Allowing Students Access to email Outside of school. We have exchange and exchange OWA atm i currently have it set so students cant access there email via this way , they can only use the local clients with outlook 2003 What are the possible reason to not allow children access to mail ? im thinking out of school bulling etc?
nicholab Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Why not I use to work at a school that use OWA for outside surely that part of preparing them for the world of work.
Disaster Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 all ours have web access, no problems as it's monitored and the kids know it.
Norphy Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 The only possible reasons would be technical rather than anything else, for example is your internet connection up to it?
peterp Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I'd have thought that encoraging the use of school email outside of school could help cut down on bullying. Since you will have a record and control of any email's they send each other via the service. If they only ways they can communicate outside of school is a 3rd party system, then you will not have direct access to the messages.
mthomas08 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 We have yet to have any real issues with giving students access to email from home and our kids are not exactly the best in the area. We occasionally had some kids sit there and try and use other email accounts which is why we push for students to have real good passwords. Other then that all is good, when frog comes our way that will put an increase usage on Email.
webman Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Our students have had external access to our internally-hosted email system for 7 years and have had very few problems, if any, that I remember.
2097 Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 Ummm .. I may enable it then .. as the general response seems to say enable Might make the OWA interface a bit more custom then Staff have access to OWA ..
