Right, I get a lot of complaints about the number of emails sent round to all staff, for the teachers of pupil x. Is this a massive problem in other schools?

I've put together a small web app which runs off of a SIMS report which allows you to search for a student and it returns a list of email addresses for that student's teachers, formatted ready for you to paste into a webmail 'To' box and gives a link for those who use an email client.

The only issues are -

It's an extra step when sending an email, emailing allstaff@xxxxxx is easier then going to a different page and searching for a pupil and copying the list of emails.

Is there much point to a system like this, it's not hard to ignore or delete emails, is it?

Demo site: http://www.alanmasters.net/addressbook/

Just finishing it off and getting rid of bugs then I'll host it somewhere to download if there's any interest.

The complaint needs to go to the SLT who then can instruct staff of their policies regarding blanket email. Your job is running the network, theirs enforcing policy.

Next complaint - send them to SLT.

OK, I've attached it.

Should be pretty straight forward - extract the contents of the zip into a web server running PHP.

To import your data, import the 'TTTO- Student's Teachers.RptDef' report into SIMS and run it. It should prompt you to save a file called students_teachers.csv, save this in the same place as the rest of the files.

For the email addresses to be extracted from SIMS, ensure that each member of staff has an email address under contact information and that it is set to be their work and their main email address.

Let me know how you get on!
