Hi,

In my lunch, i thought it would be a good idea to create an Edugeek Wikipedia page.

Would people please take a little time to help expand the article please? I have made a start but would be better if more people could help out it will help fill in the blanks etc.

Please can we try to include references where we can please, i don’t want the page to be deleted :)

Thanks

Well that lasted, a whole hour. charmin!

Clearly the PTB at WikiPedia want an entire encyclopaedic reference before you start creating it: well I suppose techies are often believed to be psychic by most non-techies! :p

Yeah it looks like it's deleted already.

I once knew someone who would patrol Wikipedia and edit/delete/moderate pages. He was a very sad young man.

Unless the article exists in a form with multiple external sources highlighting its relevance, and worth, it will be deleted very quickly. Best thing to do is create one as a sub page of your own userpage and then copy it over when finished.

EG did have a page up there previously but since it was created by me when I was a member of staff it was deleted for contravening the rules about self-promotion. There is a thread about it on here somewhere. Ideally you need to find a friendly Wikipedia regular who will guide you thorough the thorough creation of a well-referenced article. To that effect, it might be worth building it on the EG wiki first and then transferring across.

support it and act as a non outsider to stop its immediate deletion for whatever arcane reason is popular that day. Provide the secret handshake or posting in a secret forum or whatever they do now to discourage additions etc.

I tried! But even then i got told off for doing something wrong!

There are a lot of rules, they don't like people creating new articles as new users. Best way to start is editing other articles, and making friends there.

There are some giant egos there, but there are some very helpful people too. I've not edited there in a while but I racked up something like 7000 edits a while ago.

Yeah, i do agree.

I think it took me a day to get to the right page that explained how to submit it to them to read through. I did that wrong as there were two ways of doing it! :D

I understand why all the rules are there but there are soooo many, and for a complete newbie like me it was quite overwhelming!

Kaz is working on this as it was discussed at BETT one evening, I have a friend who works for the Wikifoundation and when he's back in the UK and not being flown around the world, at the wikifoundations expense! he will be poking it with Kaz :)
