Has anyone encountered these websites?

Hi All,

 

First post for me, just wondering if anyone has encountered the following website:

 

www .teaching-resources-uk.com

 

Allegedly teachers are getting phone calls that encourage them to sign up to the site. These teachers duly oblige and sign up to a 14 day trial period, but they are then getting allegedly getting a £500 invoice when they forget to cancel the subscription.

 

I must agree that there is a box to tick that confirms you are agreeing to the terms and conditons as well as confirming you have the authority to do so. It is also not difficult to find the T&C's, nor is it hard to find the FAQ which has several responses that are relevant.

 

What is very interesting to note, is that ANYONE can sign up, without authorising who they are. There are no credit card details required to validate the subscription for example. allegedly.

 

This means that any schools who get landed with an invoice when they really did not want the service, might possibly be able to challenge the website to prove who signed up for the service.

 

Just a thought that might be of help to others.

 

The same people also run another website: www .free-teaching-resources.co.uk. This site links to other third party sites.

 

There are hundreds of websites out there that actually provide good free content to schools!

I may have to warn people about that. I seem to remember a few teachers on it.

 

 

5.1.2: during the free trial period, use of the Resources is strictly limited to review and assessment purposes (this can be carried out in the classroom). You may not use the Resources for teaching purposes until you become a full Member of the Services (see below);

 

...Huh?

 

How would they know?

 

 

Also, from looking at the T&C I have a feeling they are one of those companies who deliberatly make cancelling a free trial hard so it runs over the time limit and you have to pay.

Has flagged up on here before. Their practices are not those of a company you'd want to deal with. I'd block them at filter level personally.

@pyroboris: you might want to consider editing/rewording your post to include the words "allegedly" or it could possibly be considered libel - this is a public forum and you never know who's browsing it, e.g. the owners of the aforementioned websites...

We have just had one of these come through, we have been luck enough to get out of it.
