So were close to the iPad2, and Honeycomb is almost upon us, but, which should I be looking at? Who does evaluations and where can I go to play?

What are your opinions of both?

Lol wut?

iPad 2? the iPad is new [in terms of time... tech wise it's probably obsolete], why would they make a new one so soon?

As far as I know all the iPad 2 comments are just rumors. [Which started before the iPad was even released.]

Been living under a rock X-13?

Why yes, yes I have. It's pretty comfortable under this rock.

also... From the first line in the article :

"Apple is rumoured to be preparing a launch event for 9 February to unveil the iPad 2, according to speculation kicked off by a leaked image"

A rumour based on speculation based on a "leaked" picture.

This is totally legit.

I would prefer to get some "insider" info on Honeycomb tho ;)

Time to put on your specs and say YEEEEEAAAAAAH.

It's probably all rumour specs... but it's the best I can find. [by best I mean "what I found with little effort"]

That's also for an LG with honeycomb. I've also seen Motarola, Toshiba and Acer.

Unless you meant honeycomb OS specs.

Android Honeycomb features:

* Totally revamped User Interface

* High-performance 2D and 3D graphics

* Multiple home-screens

* Multicore processor architectures support

* Redesigned widget gallery

* Exciting multimedia features

* New types of connectivity

* Enhancements for enterprise

* New web browser (looks like Google Chrome)

* Google eBooks application with flipping animations

* New Gmail Application

* Google Talk with video chat support (works on all OSes!)

* Google Maps 5.0 with 3D panning

Gotta agree with X-13. I haven't looked for other articles, but it all seems a bit 'fake'

Even if the "leaked" pictures are all fake, it's a pretty safe bet that there will be a new iPad every year (in April) in the same way there is always a new iPhone every 12 months (in June/July).

So, no one has seen or played with a Honeycomb powered pad yet then?

No one has released one yet. They're all still in development.

I think everyone is trying to avoid the launch problems Apple had with the iPad.

iPad 3G [or any other upgrade variant] I could understand.

But a completely new one...

Plus it wasn't a new iPhone. It was the original, the upgrade, yet another upgrade to make it what it should have been in the first place, iPhone 4 [a new one]

Much like there's a new Call of Duty every November ;)

If people are gonna continue to bow down to Jobbs then Jobbs is gonna continue to take them for a ride. Like I'm taken for a ride every year with the new Call of Duty, and add-on map packs etc etc

Nah, its all under googles lock and key

Although they have released interface demos and walk throughs for various aspects online - have a butchers around.

So far I'm impressed with it - and unless the next iPad runs full OSX, or MS fix how rubbish Win7 is on a touchscreen only device, I reckon a Honeycomb tablet is where it's at

There's nothing wrong with that approach. After all, Porsche has done very well for the past 48 years just making minor changes to their 911. ;)

Doing too much too soon, is often the reason why products fail...

It's not only Apple. I'm sure a lot of smartphone manufacturers would prefer it if you bought a new £500 Android phone every 6 months so they didn't have to bother releasing updates for their "old" phones!

Honeycomb is available for the honeycomb SDK and I have had a play. Problem is it runs very slow in the emulator and the mouse really isn't the best way to use it.

But it does look like honeycomb will be very cool and with people like asus making tablets for it should be better priced then the ipad as well.

alternatively wait for windows 8 which will have an arm variant - you might have to wait some time though

Win7 + Tablet + Kinect comtatablity [with the speach recognition] + built in cameras = no more iPad

Win7 + Tablet + Kinect = slugish performance, no battery life and a computer you'd be ashamed to use in public as you wave your arms around

Ha. You have a point.

Then again, this is tech in the £500+ range... I distrust people too much to be taking it out of my house unless I'm accompanied by armed guards. [Or pope style... In a popemobile with bullet proof glass.]

So, various tech blogs have stuff released on Honeycomb. It's looking goooooooood.

Info for sysadmins: full system encryption, as well as group policy-like controls over it.

There is a new iPad coming, and the latest developer build of iOS does back up the statement there there are a number of new areas of functionality for iPads. This functionality only tends to turn up in the OS if the hardware is due shortly.

Developers are already planning stuff so it is on its way.
