Out of curiosity, Anyone know if that local hotel has a strict 12 booking in time? Or is it "from" 12. Just know some hotels have stupid "after X hours we can resell room" rubbish. And will have to drive up after work so will be late arrival :p

If you are there early, there is a nice pub next door :)

Edited to add: You shouldn't have a problem, we've had lots of people book in here in the past and turn up after work etc. It won't be an issue.

It's more being late I worry about :p Finish work 5:30, few hours driving/train up. etc :p

Also, anyone know rough time the conference ends? Better to book two nights, or does it finish earlish?

thanks

It is due to finish at 17:00 at the latest. It depends how much you want to add to the 'Ask the admins' session we traditionally hold at the end. If it's anything like the Microsoft conf in Reading which was mainly attended by those in the sounth who never make it up north and didn't know the format, we got off lightly that day :)

Up here we have Simon and Bossman to contend with!!

I would recommend you stay overnight on teh second night as it is actually quite a social occasion and we all get to sit down to a meal together and with some of the speakers/exhibitors. This also goes for Wednesday night which is a more informal affair, but we admins shall also be present. In short, it's good fun in the evenings and the hotel bar is open LATE :)

Late bar!? Sold! :D Guess the answer is, Book Wed-Fri off work, Wed/Thurs hotel. Then no rushing etc!

Sounds like it'll be a good few days :p

I'm going to bump this thread as he really does need an idea of what information he needs to impart to you. His talk will be on 'Myths and Musts' about the Data Protection Act, so if you have any pressing issues about things you are doing, or think you should be doing, or being told to do but does not seem right then this is the place to let him know so he can fit it in. I suspect the Q&A at the end of his session will be quite a good one.

Do teacher laptops/pen drives need to be encrypted is thery just contain lesson plans/resources?

At what amount of personal data should encryption be considered?

Has a educationalist up to and including head teacher level ever got more than a smacked wrist for contravening the act?

Keep the questions coming, I am preparing now!!!

As the topics cross, I'll even throw in a bit around ISO27001 if it's needed.

Just wondering if there is anyone near me who is going to the Conf who could give me a lift there and back

Ideally, I'll be wanting to come the same day..

Not sure I'll be fit enough to drive by the 2nd :(

I'm driving from Crewe on the afternoon of the 1st and going back to Macclesfield the morning of the 3rd. If anyone wants a lift from that general area.

Gah! why 2 threads for the same thing

anyway - Been out round the block in the car today and successfully did a couple of emergency stops with no trouble or pain at all - so looks like I'll be attending the Conference under my own steam :)

See you all soon.

The meal will be at 8:30pm at Checcos restraunt on Garstang Road in Preston: Checco's Preston

We shall be meeting in the hotel Ibis Lobby from about 18:00 onwards (don't worry if we're not there initially) and getting a taxi(s) down from there.
