I have searched for this and have unable to come up with an answer as to what is causing it.

Students are creating moviemaker files and when they go back to them they sometimes get the error 'moviemaker cannot open this file' If i check the file on my machine it opens and works no problem so there is nothing wrong with the file.

The problem seems to occur or occurs much more often on older slower computers rather than our newer ones. The machines have recently been re-imaged yet still develop this 'fault'

I have tried reducing the hardware acceleration but this did nothing. Has anyone got any ideas as to what is causing this or a solution to fixing it (apart from not using movemaker!)?

Thanks for any help

I've had / fixed this.

It is a MS security update applied by windows update.

The version of the MovieMaker executable has been upgraded.

Make sure all your machines are running with the latest exe.

Sorry, I've forgotten the MS Knowledgebase number, but should point you in the right direction.

The problem I have seems to do with computer performance, a file can not work on an older slower machine but I can run it on my newer machine and it runs fine.

The only rooms having this problem are the ones with the older machines in them.
