Looking for new computer

It's time of year of again been told I've got some money to spend not alot, but never mind:mad:

 

Anyway I need to start replacing the suite computers, so has anyone bought recently - midi towers, dual core, pentium, 3gb ram, windows 7 pro 32 bit 3 year warranty sub £400?

I'd be interested to hear what you currently have (current suite spec.)

Reason I ask is that I'm currently helping a number of schools recondition existing equipment to last that bit longer.

On average! the cost of refurbishing an old XP desktop comes in at £60 (+ £30 for memory upgrade if needed)

Worth a thought, and it would free you to spend the money on something else

Yes I have considered upgrading, but I need to start a rolling replacement program to replace the suite computers over the next 3 years. I then cascade them down into classroom computers. They are already 4 years old and the only cost effect things to upgrade/improve would be extra ram and bettter PSU.

Milleniums own computers are roughly that spec and come in very very reasonable. Much less than you are talking about

Try stone - they can always be flexible with the price - plus never take the first quote as they normally try and rip you off then tell them their price is a joke and you have cheaper they then tend to get cheaper.

 

Or depending on quantities build yourself??

I've looked at Milleniums computers, they're the ones with five year warranties aren't they, from Staffordshire? I've also seen some Lenovo A70 (I think) with a free three year warranty, maybe not the latest spec but quite adequate but our needs.

Didn't that used to be the opinion of SCL boxes, then quality started declining? Have to add though, actual service from Edutec has been very good.

Viglen and Stone will both offer 5 year warranties, although they are extra.

Try a2z computers, we normally buy from them, they seem to be rock solid

zoostorms have offered the best value for spec i have seen in quite some time.

I've looked at zoostorms seem to remember a thread on here about them. TBH I'd really like to go for HP but the computers in our price range are windows 7 64 bit and I'm not convinced that our 'educational designed to work with W98' will work with 64 bit.

 

I had a physically damaged HP laptop sent to HP for repair and have to say the whole procedure was impressive.

@chrbb speak to Millenium sub £400 would get you some good spec units with 5 year warranty I can highly recommend them as I have used them for the past 6 years so the warranty does stand up and they do use good branded internal components.

 

@webman will also recommend them too plus @sylv3r in fact a few NMs around our county have started using them.

 

Don't forget to haggle with them as they can beat most every other supplier.
