kennysarmy Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 These are the headings around which I am putting my budget for next year around: Server works Planned Replacement Hardware Planned New Hardware Unplanned New Hardware Planned Maintenance Contracts Repairs & Replacements Software & Licencing Consumable items Other funding My boss is not happy with the "Unplanned New Hardware" heading... However this year our "Unplanned New Hardware" pot is running at around £10,000 as things get asked for throughout the year that we cannot say NO! to... What might be a better title than "Unplanned New Hardware" as he suggests anyone on the Govs finance committee might think we cannot plan - if we need to have some money allocated against UNPLANNED ! Oh the reality of it all Suggestions - brighten up my day.... "Contingency" just does nt seem to adequately reflect the fact that it's FORCED spend upon us...

Andrew_C Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I'd go for "Reserve" or some variation; "Emergency Reserve" is perhaps too strong, "Unknowables Reserve", "Known Unknowns Reserve" (in Rumsfeld's voice) Or "Technicians' Slush Fund".

Don't like too many budget headings as other people could get confused i.e. Bursars etc.

Don't like too many budget headings as other people could get confused i.e. Bursars etc. Under what heading is your "contingency" for things like replacing printers that die - or being asked to provide somone with a laptop that you did nt know about at the start of the financial year. I agree less headings might be better though.
