Thanks, that looks cool.

I wonder if Mr Tolley is a member.

I've used the 'contact me' to check, make a correction to the instructions and also suggest whether the publish to html output can be used as that would save some of the setup time. Not sure if it's a valid suggestion as i'm not able to test the package out yet so don't know how it works or what it needs.

Hi vikpaw,

Thanks for the message, got your email. Didn't realise that it had made it onto EduGeek already!

I have made the correction to the instruction.

I hadn't thought about using the HTML output as a source of the data. I will have to have a look into it as it would save a great amount of time exporting all of the cover information, and equally an amount of time importing that information into the workbook.

If you have any other suggestions or improvements I would be glad to hear of them, and will try and put them in.

No idea how Serco works - never had a chance to use it.

I'm sure it could be adapted though - just depends on what format data comes out of the MIS.

Perhaps when my workload, EG BETT, and my writing and conference stuff dies down in a month or so I could have a look at that with you and see if we could adapt it to work with Serco?

Sivadam - This kind of tip isn't going to help your quest to get back into the red!!! Thanks anyway

C'est la vie! This looked too good not to share it with as many SIMS Users as possible!

I hope that you did not mind me taking this liberty!

I posted it into two forums on SupportNet as well!

And thank you Craig for making it freely available.

Looks a good idea, I wonder if I could convert it to work with Serco....

I hope you manage to get it to work john

Not at all! No point every school re-inventing the wheel.

No idea how ...... the MIS.

I have downloaded your Absence Analysis zip file but it will not unzip with the current version of WinZip. I get an error message saying it is not a valid archive.

Have just uploaded the file again - now zipped with Windows rather than WinRAR. Should work.

Hi all,

Thanks to those who have downloaded and come back to me with suggestions or bug fixes. I totally forgot that other schools have different timetable structures - but this is now rectified and you can specify your own timetable structure so that the Cover reports show accurate information. Other fixes include:

  • Generate Data no longer fails when Absences have been recorded which do not have an end date.
  • Generate Data ignores all absences which have neither a start no end date as they are erroneous
  • Periods can be defined which are then used to determine Class cover information
  • Improved Class lookups when analysing Cover Data
  • Pivot tables have had any school specific filters removed from them

I am looking into whether I can make the workbook import it's data from the HTML output directory for cover. Also before the next update, a way to import information from an old version workbook to save importing everything again.

Thanks again everyone, and keep the comments coming.

Hiya,

We're getting "Invalid absences data file" when importing on the latest version using the report that we imported. I've tried cutting the data right down to just a month or so and we're still getting it. Do you have any sample exports that we could check it against?

We've got the Class and Cover data imported file, our SIMS manager loves it already!

THanks

aha, ours has an extra column just called "Count" and is missing the "Role" Column. No idea why but adding/deleting those afterwards in the exported excel file solved the problem.

Thanks :)

FYI, we're running Version 7.136

Glad you got it to work. It might be worth checking the definition of the Absences: Absences report in SIMS. It should pick up the role from the latest contract with a person, or return a blank if no contracts exist.

Do you use Personnel in SIMS?

Hi all,

More bug fixes and enhancements to the workbook. Thanks again to people for comments, suggestions and problem reports. Much appreciated.

Anyhow, new features in this version:

  • Fixed Ribbon buttons in Microsoft Excel 2007
  • Fixed missing VBA reference in Import Cover
  • Fixed further missing VBA references in Import Cover
  • Inserted missing declarations in Import Absences and Import Classes
  • Import Cover Days now updates and shows correct information
  • Cover – Cover Type report dates are now shown in date order
  • Clear Data leaves header rows in place enabling Import to run
  • Tables have gridlines
  • Import Previous Version command added
  • Lessons Covered by Reason report added

Main feature here is that you can import an older version of the workbook in the new version, without having to import all your cover, class and absence data again from scratch. Look at the site below for info on this feature.

Thanks again everyone, and keep the comments coming.

I'm unable to get either Absenses or Classes data generated from Green Abbey training data to import. Both say 0 records imported. The Excel reports output from SIMS look fine - same as the example provided above. Have enabled Macros in the Trust Centre and tried to Clear data as the supplied file contains data already - that doesn't work either.

Any ideas please?

That seems strange. Can you send me a copy of the absences and classes files that you are trying to import? If you could send them to [email protected], along with the downloaded workbook that you are trying to import to.

I have just tested it again on mine and it all works fine.

Just to check - on the versions tab the last line should read '1.21 - Fixed Incorrect Link from Cover Analysis Reports'
