6Foot2 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I have looked at several converters [installed and online] and I can't fond one to match our needs. I would like to be able to convert to as many formats as possible from as many formats as possible because if I supply a solution that converts from MP4 to AVI [the request that is in now] I know that in two weeks an new request will come in saying that they now also want to convert from MOV to FLV. I am not interested in downloading and converting files from the web but rather files that have been created by the students [why wasn't the file saved in the correct format in the first place I hear yo ask: I don't know I reply] The converter can be online or one that is downloaded and installed. If it is an online converter it hopefully will have minimal advertising carried on the page [some of the online converters had annoying ads which would be sure to distract our students from that task at hand. If it is installed locally it has to be freeware: There is NO budget for this. I have run out of ideas. Many thanks in advance.

GREED Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I never got on with Handbrake. AnyVideoConverter I have used well in the past, but unsure on exactly what codecs it has.

Arthur Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Handbrake no longer supports creating Xvid AVIs, so won't be of much use to you. If you want to cover all of your bases I reckon Freemake Video Converter would be the best option. I posted a screenshot showing all the formats it supports in this thread.
SneakyBeaky Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I have been using Aiseesoft Total Video Convertor which, although not free, I obtained as a freebie on 'giveawayoftheday', when it was offered. Video convertors seem to be a giveaway there quite often. It is worth making a daily visit to giveawayoftheday.com, just to see what is on offer.

That way, user just get any old video files, write it to a drive mounted in their user area, wait a bit, then pick up the converted video file from a different folder or mapped drive. -- David Hicks

I too have been searching for that illusive Video Converter software and in the past got to use Any Video COnvertor until recently where an update seems to only convert part of the file rather than the full amount. Been using Super for a while now, although the interface looks a bit complicated it has a host of options available and does batch conversion well too. Download file takes a bit to find on the site so have linked it for you.

steve_nfi Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I generally use either Any Video Converter, Freemake Video Converter or Prism Video Converter( although this one usually comes as a trial but a full one). They all do FLV files.
