Lenovo T60 Laptop with Corrupt PXE ROM

I have a Lenovo T60 laptop that gives a PXE-E05 error at boot time. Basically, this relates to something wrong in the PXE ROM. From what I can tell, fixing it should be easy (a simple firware flash of the PXE ROM) but the Intel PREBOOT (BOOTUTIL) package refuses to do it because it is an embeddded NIC

 

I have tried several versions of the BOOTUTIL utility but they all refuse with the same message.

 

Any ideas anyone?

Never had any success flashing embedded NIC - manufactures don't seem to ever provide any updates.

 

It may be a risk, but you could try BootUtil.exe –DEFCFG to reset the eeprom to default config.

Firstly: how come you can afford T series thinkpads!

 

Secondly: Very long shot - I once used a program called cbrom Using CBROM to insert a newer version of a NIC ROM into a via motherboard bios, then flash the bios to upgrade the NIC firmware.

Of course you will need to adapt for a thinkpad, and it may not work but basic synopsis is here. biosext - Etherboot/gPXE Wiki
