I remember systems programming on Minix... that was on a real, simplified, dumbed down OS - I daren't think how much extra you'd need to learn for Debian!

or i could ask on the ubuntu forums and spend months sifting through the wrong answers and avoiding the cleverly disguised rm-rf / commands only to find that it was fixed by an update the day after i posted

How many people are developers for Debian?

 

At the moment we estimate that a little under 900 people hold the title Developer, following the great MIA purges of recent years; a further 100 people have upload rights on restricted packages through the Maintainers programme; then further countless people work on translations, documentation, package manicuring, and so on. It's impossible to get a reliable number on them since our barrier to entry or exit is low (you're not required to register in any way before contributing, you just send in your work and hope it's accepted by a Developer).

Congrats on becoming a fully fledged Debian Dev ( or deb dev for short ) - bet that was a lot of hard work and touche on the not getting into it as per FN GM.
